I know someone petitioning for her parents. The cases are currently at nvc. With the recent immigration ban parents won't be able to enter for 60 days as of now. My question is will nvc still process the case and send it to the consulate? Or is it just passed sitting idle at nvc?, which will delay the process even more.

NVC is still operational and processing documents.

However, the consulates are not conducting routine visa services, so they likely won't be scheduling any interviews at this time.

An immigrant visa stays at NVC until they (NVC) are informed of available interview dates by each consulate.  NVC then assigns an interview date to the cases in the queue and then forwards them to the consulate.  So, I don't see any movement of IR-5 cases from NVC for at least 60 days.

Thanks geowrian. Atleast they are still processing documents so the case isnt sitting as idle as it would be if nvc wasn't. Hopefully after 60 days the case is sent to the consulate for an interview.

Have a similar question. They're processing submissions from Feb 11th as of today, and the application of my mother, who I'm sponsoring, went in about a week after that. I really hope they're still reviewing parents' paperwork. I hope I'll hear (a DQ or otherwise...) next week, but if I don't, will know that they've stopped even processing paperwork for the groups currently banned from getting immigrant visas, like parents of citizens.

 

If anyone's parent (or sibling, or another temporarily banned subgroup) gets an update from NVC in the coming days, please share, so we know if they're still reviewing these groups' docs! Thank you!
