Who pays for your immigration fees?

Well, technically I guess hubby paid for all the fee’s since everything had to be paid in USD from a US checking account which I never had and still don’t.

 

It’s much about swings and roundabouts really, while we don’t have joint accounts, we both have cards for each other’s accounts, if we need money it’s taken from whichever account can cover it pending time of month and due bills. 

 

The money is ours, it’s a partnership.. if he’s broke, im there for him and will cover everything and know he’d do the same in return.

My husband and I share all finances but we're also both pretty good with money and spending control. I could understand if one side of the relationship was a spendthrift that separate accounts or a 50/50 approach might make sense financially, even if it's just a "learning opportunity" for the other half.

 

If one person has significantly more money than the other but requires or forces them to foot bills, that doesn't sit well with me. Especially if it's a deviation from a cultural norm, it could even been seen as a red flag or abuse.

USCIS or NVC or USEM doesn't care who pays the fees as long as it's paid and it doesn't bounce. Every relationship has it's own dynamics so how one goes about the payment of fees should be based on proper communication and trust.

My husband, who is the immigrant, is paying for everything because that is how he is.  I didn’t tell him about the document translation fees (which I am going to go ahead and pay for).   Like it’s been stated - every couple is different with how they handle their finances.  Just be sure that you have a good understanding with each other because you are seeing this person in action and that won’t likely change.  I would say this to any couple.   The most argued topic between couples is usually about money.

My husband and I are splitting the cost 50/50, that's how we usually handle our money.

I paid the majority (but not all) of the costs for my wife's immigration. I was just in a better financial situation, plus COL differences.

Then again, her immigrating to the US was more of a factor of doing so for my benefit as it would have been a larger hardship for me to move away from family than her (she was working abroad from her family already). It certainly was never viewed as being for her benefit to come to the US.

To me, money management is a major issue and you need to be on the same boat, especially now that you're married and maybe planning on having a family. Not having the same parameters can be a red flag. But that's just me.

To me as long as I get supplied with beer, coffee, and cigarettes she can have the rest.  That works out super - well LOL
