B2 visa for sister from philipines to usa

Hi,

 

Does anyone know a solution to this problem: My Filipina wife is now a US citizen. She would like to petition her sister to visit us for 6 months, as we are expecting. The problem is that her sister does not have a lot of money and does not have a bank account (though her sister is employed). I have more than sufficient financial means to support her visit. Can my finances function as the primary proof of funds?  Or....any suggestions to solve this problem?

Her sister cannot "petition" anyone for a tourist visa. The tourist visa applicant applies alone.

 

She can mention who is paying for her trip on the DS-160. She can bring proof of that if she wants, but the IO is not obligated to look at it during the interview. She must show strong ties to her home country and overcome the burden of intent to immigrate to the US.

Your wife can't petition for your sister's visitor visa. That is not how it works. There is no petitioning nor sponsorship for visitor visas. The applicant ( your wife's sister) must apply on here own and show her own merits. You finances mean nothing in the process. In fact, it can hurt her chances of obtaining a visa.

 

It is a very common problem for young Filipinas to obtain a visitor visa. In fact, many say it is nearly impossible. The reason why is because too many Filipinas in the past used to visitor visa to come to the US but never go back. This is why the US heavily scrutinize young Filipinas who don't have strong ties to the Philippines. They are too much of a risk.  It is unfortunate but many don't get a chance to visit. It is simply how it is.

 

Nothing your sister-in-law can do but apply a find out.

It’s also going to be hard to prove she has strong ties to the Philippines If she can spend 6 months in the US, clearly no job or school. (Or is she older, and retired perhaps?8

Sounds like a part time job (not many small businesses I know can be without their main bookkeeper/s for 6 months). Unlikely to be viewed as a strong tie imo. Nothing wrong with trying if the $160 is not a big deal, never say never, as long as she understands that the chances are probably not great.

Obvious question they will probably ask is: why 6 months? It's a very specific and very long amount of time to request. Is there some reason the trip has to be that long?

Hi all. It may not be book keeping I'd have to ask my wife. As far as 6 months, I read somewhere that was the max.  thanks!

Getting a B visa for the purpose of coming to provide child care, even for a relative, is also a sketchy area.  Can be seen as displacing USC/LPR from a job, even if voluntary.

 

I'd say her chances are slim.

I would agree (slim chances). Oh well....hmmmmm  perhaps the parent would be a better idea?   Just looking for some family help with the new baby.
