Hi y'all,

I'm looking for ways to pay my bounced check fee to USCIS.

I submitted my I-765 OPT application to the Phoenix Lockbox early March, and received a hard-copy receipt letter in the mail. Unfortunately my payment check was bounced and my online status shows rejection due to "insufficient fund". I called USCIS phone agent and was told that a physical hard-copy rejection letter was mailed to me on the last week of March (one month ago), to the same (correct) address where they mailed the receipt letter.

However, I have not yet received the rejection letter yet. The USCIS agent said they think I owe a bounced check fee and I must mail a new check to pay this fee, TOGETHER WITH with my rejection letter (which I have yet received despite it being mailed out a month ago - I suspect the letter is lost in mail). There was nothing else they could do. They directed me to email the Phoenix Lockbox, and my emails to the Lockbox went answered.

I cannot submit another application because the official status of my application is still "pending" in my university system (which is linked to USCIS). The system doesn't allow my university to issue me a new I-20 with the same OPT endorsement. Presumably this is because I need to pay a bounced check fee of $30, in order to make this application status become officially "rejected". However, without the rejection letter, I don't know how to pay this fee.

Can anyone who know about this share with me

  1. If you have received similar rejection letter for returned check or bounced check, what did your rejection notice say? What exact pieces of information does it have? Does it have some reference number, OTHER than the receipt number?
  2. Where did you mail your $30 bounced check fee to?
    1. Who did you address the check to?
    2. Where did you mail the check?
    3. Is the fee $30?

I hope I'm making my case clear here. I'm quite worried because OPT takes a long time to process. With the current very uncertain immigration situation where policies can be upheaved by a tweet, I just want to make sure I do everything I can do speed up this process.

Thank you so much!
