Just catching up on everything since last night! Sorry if this has already been answered above but there was a lot to get through. Does anyone know what this means for us who’s AOS is currently being processed? I just got my NOA-1 (yesterday!) and I obviously haven’t even been given a biometrics appointment yet, so I was assuming my AOS was on pause anyway until biometrics was back to normal anyway. I’m guessing for me there isn’t much of a change?

I’m so sorry to anyone this effects, you must be so stressed and upset 💕

at worst you`ll be delayed, but theres some rumor that family based gcs will be unaffected

As an approved K1 visa holder who has not yet been able to enter the US, I HATE the fact that a period of 90 days separates us from those who are already married, when that is our full intention and sworn commitment to do so after arrival, especially when we have spent (in my case nearly a year) of processing & vetting our applications including an affidavit of support to demonstrate that we can be supported by our partner.

Same boat. Our visa expires mid June and she hasn't entered the country yet.

Do you guys think this will block entry of visa holders who haven't yet been able to fly to the US?

If you already have a visa this shouldn't affect you.

USCIS Stage:

  • Nov 12 2019: NOA1 (NSC)
  • Dec 17 2019: I-129f Received
  • May 15 2020: I-130 Approved!

NVC Stage:

  • May 16 2020: Case Created
  • May 16 2020: Fees Paid
  • May 22 2020: Sent IV & AOS Packages
  • May 29 2020: Request for more documents (proof of assets)
  • May 30 2020: Resubmitted NVC documents
  • June 15, 2020: DQ'd!

This means my son is still OK to come. I uploaded all documents yesterday evening and submitted them.

In the ongoing WH briefing. He made it clear that this is in fact about potential green card seekers and will not affect temporary work visas like H1-B.

absolute bonkers but still we have to see the official draft but i don’t see any chance there tbh

Two more posts -- by the same participant -- have been removed for their purely political nature.  Suspensions will follow.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

All of this is speculation... until the EO comes out.

But is it safe to say that this EO will only apply to NEW GC seekers? Those who already have a GC, conditional or permanent (10-year), and are already here in the US should be ok?

If another few million people lose their jobs in the next month and the one after that, and the economy contracts by 20%+ as they predict in Q2, then it will be very hard to justify any work visas. USCIS will set the bar so high for any new or renewal that it will effectively stop them.

This economy is in free fall and when it finally lands, the backlash will concentrate on immigrants, foreigners,  and people of color as it has been over the centuries.

God help us all.

I wonder if he meant H2Bs.  People on H1Bs can file for AOS.

sounds like this will be phase two, so not yet

Edit: actually, not sure. phase two is probably about issuing temporary work visas. I don't know anything about non-Americans entering the country or whether they will be affected. don't think this is on the table

Oh wow. That is pretty surprising. I wonder if that might be because fiancés are not considered immediate relatives of USCs yet? Who knows.

Here’s hoping that the backlog starts to clear a bit. That would be a silver lining. I’m surprised they don’t send more of the AOS petitions to the Yakima or Tukwila offices to lessen the workload in Seattle. Honestly I’d have been happy to make the drive down to either just to speed this lengthy process up, and I’m sure I’m not alone. Being in limbo for so long waiting for a green card is exhausting.

The "Seattle" office is actually the one in Tukwila.  The other two in our state are Yakima and Spokane.  Last I looked at processing times (which was pre-Covid), they were all pretty similar.

I have always suspected that our backlog (like San Francisco's) is tech-related.  With Microsoft, Amazon and Starbucks world HQs, and now the ever-expanding Google and FB campuses, this area sees a lot of employment based visas.
