I think the ban on countries was to stop them legally coming here not illegally,  correct me if i am wrong but this action will also suspend legal immigration,  no one here is talking about coming here illegally

The President is temporarily halting immigration, either all or H1B1 work visas. The reason is to "protect the people' as the media has droned on about for weeks. Now you have to decide, do you want this 'protection' that the media (and others) have been harping on for weeks or you don't. Also, if you are for not temporarily stopping immigration you are for opening up businesses again, right?

My Brother in law and his wife are currently living and working in the US on a L1/L2 visas respectively. They are due to travel to Italy for an interview for their green card in six months. How would this executive action affect them?

The pandemic is here to stay until we get a vaccine (12-18 months). Social distancing will be the new norm for quite a long time.

It isn't just restaurants and travel related jobs. Plenty of other industries are getting hit real bad. Plenty of small businesses are close to bankruptcy. My husband works in one of those "safe" finance jobs and his company is talking about putting some of the people on furlough (white collar jobs, some of them on h1b visas).  Economy doesn't just bounce back that quick.

The 'pandemic' is not here to stay. The virus will be, just like the flu virus or corona virus' are every year. They are All around, still.  Those that are panic-peddlers seem to be hoping for a year or more pandemic panic. Makes no sense. Open up the country and let's get back to work.

Because he is looking at it from a business prospective. Why would you bring in someone for a work visa when there is 10% unemployment? Also don't give me the age old words that "they fill jobs that American's can't do. Anyone in the Tech industry like I am can tell you that is simply false but it is trotted out all the time in order to bring in people only to fire the US Citizen.

Still doesn’t answer my question or is a terrible business perspective. When the majority out of work right now are small businesses, retail, food service, entertainment how does stopping immigration help those people.

Waiters, theme park employees, locally owned stores and eateries, retail workers, etc who are out of work. Stopping immigration won’t get them back to work sooner.

At this time, I am not sure if I am able to go back home..I am waiting to hear the details of this "executive order"..I am hoping there will be lawsuits blocking his directive as there was with his previous travel bans which went al the way to the Supreme Court..I think this is just another political move to get him re-elected and divert people's attention from the fact that he mishandled this entire covid_19 sutuation

How will this help re-election? This is an extremely weak argument. Trump’s extreme stance on immigration does not have wide support. This will do nothing to gain votes NOTHING!

Actually many Immigrants I know like the majority of his stances

Actually, there was a poll a couple days ago and it showed that about 80% of Americans support immigration restriction. In the light of that, I think he is using this EO to attract more independents in his camp. So I can see how this can help him get re-elected. Immigration restriction is very popular among people across all parties. Since he is struggling to keep up with pandemic management, oil prices decline and economy, bringing immigration up will be the easiest solution to his declining rates.

I think the protection that the media wants is that of people's lives. Thousands have died and will die because of these silly political agendas. The hardship comes from balancing reopening of businesses without risking more lives. This does not appear to be on the agenda here.

You don't even know what is actually being done and you running with assumptions. I would bet you that this has to do with work visas and not family immigration

I am reading his tweet, either 1)he doesn't know how to say something or 2)i was wrong in thinking family immigration is Immigration or 3)he means what he says.

For 1st and 3rd option he doesn't have my vote

The simple fact is like the media frenzy, everyone is reacting to something that is unknown at this point.  Any President has a lot of power with respect o immigration delegated to them by the Congress.  When and more importantly if the EO actually sees the light of day, then we can tear it apart as I expect many lawyers will do.
