Immigration Suspension Executive Order - MEGA THREAD

This could mean anything. In the most limited scope it could mean no new immigrant petitions would be accepted. On the other end of the spectrum it could mean shutting down USCIS and stop all current and future processing of all cases, including naturalization. I doubt revoking existing green cards is possible. Most likely it means a pause in admitting new permanent residents and most non-immigrants. My concern is about the meaning of "temporary". Given that he is mentioning "jobs", the total shutdown of legal immigration could easily be extended for years to come or as long as the economic consequences of the pandemic last.

I have been working on my I-129f petition the last few days and gathering the documents etc. I am at the point of being ready to submit it. And then I read this insane news.

I am so over Trump's never ending cruelty.

I know there are no details yet, but what are the chances it will be something like "any applications postmarked after April 21 will not be accepted"??

Should I aim to send in this application tomorrow?

This is so exhausting.

I am strongly considering to just going back to New Zealand. The job market is horrible, the politics are insane, and a lot of people here are extremely arrogant. I miss NZ even though it is extremely expensive :(

I hear you. You'll have to make those decisions for yourself, maybe living in NZ is the right choice for now. It's not like the US is going to disappear and you can try again under a kinder administration.

If truly LPRs can be barred from getting/renewing their green cards/applying for citizenship, I'm effectively forced out of the country. Finland is great, not a bad place to go, but would be a shame to get booted at the final hurdle.

But let us not panic until we know more.

I wonder if the absence of a Visa bulletin for may at this point has anything to do with this

Is it usually published by this point in the month?

I may be wrong, but I believe with a CR-1/IR-1 visa the permanent residency isn't valid until one gets the I-551 stamp first at the border. The CR-1 visa just serves as a proper valid travel document to enter the US. I think this is what the "UPON ENDORSEMENT" part means. So, technically a CR-1/IR-1 visa holder doesn't have residency until they get the I-551.

i have a feeling you could be right. ...I hope not.

Probably not as he is a permanent resident.   But when we get the executive order we will all know.

Doesn't one get admitted to permanent residency only at the port of entry (using the CR1 to enter)?
