I-90 Request to Withdraw Application

Hello!

I was hoping someone could help me concerning the withdrawal of my I-90 Application to Replace my permanent resident card. For various reasons, my husband (a U.S. Citizen) and I have decided to go back to my native country after being in the U.S. for just over three years. I had filed for my I-90 replacement card in October 2019 and then withdrew my application by mail on March 1, 2020. I mailed it to: 

Potomac Service Center

2200 Potomac Center Drive Stop 2425

Arlington, VA 20598-2425

I included my email, phone and street address, but I have not heard anything back. Do they usually acknowledge this letter in some way as they do with other forms submitted? Does anyone know how long it might take to hear anything. I am a little concerned because we left the U.S. a few days after mailing the Withdrawal Request and now with the Covid-19 issue we have not been back to the U.S. and probably won't be for several more weeks since our flight was cancelled. I have had someone checking our mail and nothing has arrived.

Why was Form I-90 filed? Was your last green card valid for 2 or 10 years? When was the last green card issued?

My two year green card was issued 10/2/17 and expired 10/2/19.  At the time, I had planned to stay and had a job.

If I-90 was filed then it would eventually be denied with or without your withdrawal request. The correct form for Removal of Conditions is I-751.

Sounds like the original card was lost or stolen.

Even in that case, filing I-90 for replacement of 2 year GC that was expired is futile. The 2 year GC expired on 10/02/2019 and the I-90 was filed in the same month.

My apologies, you are right, I meant to say I-751 Removal of Conditions is what I filed in October and requested to be withdrawn before we left the U.S. in March. I am so sorry for the confusion on my part. I don't know why I had I-90 Replacement in my head. Thank you for mentioning the I-751 since it jogged my memory. 

With that said, do you think I should I have heard from them by now?

Probably. Does checking the status online show something? https://myaccount.uscis.gov

 

A different option is to file Form I-407 by mail: https://www.uscis.gov/news/alerts/uscis-will-no-longer-accept-i-407-international-field-offices I don't know if they send out a confirmation that they processed the I-407. There is no fee to file the I-407.

It doesn't show anything online that they received it and that's what got me worried to, that maybe it got lost in the mail. I will have to wait until we are back to file again, but I will use the Form I-407 next time. I had just printed a letter with my request before. Perhaps it must always be done on Form I-407 and that might be another reason I didn't hear back?
