Dear All,

Newbie; USC, Just got married; need to file I-130 (later I-129F) for my wife.

My wife lives in a hostel; we are concerned that if we write her hostel address, she may NOT receive the mail from the INS, and that would screw up the whole process bigtime. Should we write her permanent address?? (On the I-130, I don't think that should be an issue: It simply asks for the relative's address; does NOT specify CURRENT address, or something like that. BUT on the G325A, It asks the applicant's residence for the last FIVE years: should we write her permanent Address, OR write all of her hostel addresses for the last five years....

PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks,

Joe

They don't use the address on the G-325A for correspondence, so list hostel address if you want.

Make sure that the address on I-130 and I-129F is where you want mail to go to, we listed my SO's mother's home as current address on the I-129F even though she lived most of the time at her place of work.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

You should write her permanent address on I-130 and I-129F, because that way, she will get correspondence on that address. You can mention her hostel address on G-325A. USCIS will send correspondence to her address given on I-130 and I-129F, as YuandDan said.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

Joe,

It would help to understand a bit more about your wife's situation. Why is she currently living in a hostel, and why is her current address not her "permanent" address (she's living in the hostel only temporarily, and will soon be returning to the "permanent" address?)

Yodrak,

My wife was finishing her studies, and so has been living in the hostel for several years. She is currently working in Delhi, and is still in the hostel, and will likely be there until she joins me here (her family is from a small town outside delhi; long commute up & down daily from her permanent address...)

is she able to receive all her mails at her hostel address? In that case, you can put her hostel address. It won't matter, even if you put her permanent address.

joe,

In which case it seems to me that the hostel is her 'permanent' address, and what you are calling her "permanent" address is really a past address where she has no intention of resuming residence.

Getting back to your original question, she will not be receiving any mail from the USCIS (INS doesn't exist any longer) and if she designates you as her choice of agent when your petition is approved and is sent to the DoS' NVC then you will recieve the mailings from the NVC.

YuanDan,

Is it okay for the addresses on the I-130, and I-129F to be different??

Joe

You addresses this one to YuandDan, but I hope you don't mind that I am answering it. You should not put different addresses on I-130 and I-129F. Why would you do that?

Yodrak: The beneficiary/visa applicant does receive interview packet from the Embassy/consulate prior to the IV interview.

That is kinda iffy and not super-reliable... (getting mail at the hostel); hence the concern, and our prefernce that we put her permanent address (her parents home) as the address of record.

But on our marriage certificate, it lists her hostel address as her current address; it lists her permanent address as well....

Is it okay to list her permanent address on the I-130 & I-129F, and list her current (hostel) address on the G325A??? (don't want to mess around with 'different' addresses with the babus/bureaucrats at INS.....)

Also, on the I-130/I-129F, they ask about her emplyment: as we write her employment in Delhi, would they object as to how whe could be living in that small town & commute up & down everyday???? (just don't want to put my foot in my mouth...) (maybe I am making a big deal out of a small thing, but just wanted to get your guidance..)

THANKS a TON...

Joe

Nops Yodrak; her parents home address is her permanent address on the record (including her passport & all her official documents....). And she certainly goes back to her permanent address over the weekends, or on holidays, etc.

I do realize the name change to USCIS/DHS, but am used to the name INS!!!!

Thanks...

Thanks for answering simple_male; I agree the address must be the same on the I-130 & the I-129F; and I will put her permanent address there.

But on the G-325A they specifically ask about the address she has lived at over the last 5 years: Is it okay for me to list a different address there?? (all of her temporary hostel addresses over the last several years rather than her permanent address...)

Somewhere on this forum, I saw someone talking about the G325A as a form that they do NOT pay a whole lot of attention to: is that true? (With all the homeland security stuff, are they very particular about this stuff, or not)

PLEASE HELP....

Thanks,

Joe

Joe,

Seems we have a different idea of what a 'permanent' address is.

Our difference aside, when USCIS asks for an address, unless they are specifically asking for a mailing address what they want to know is 'where are you living now'. With some exceptions, in the USA one is generally supposed to update their documentation to show where they are currently living - and the USCIS is a US entity with a US mindset. When they ask where she lives they don't care what her address of record is with the authorities in her country if she isn't actually living there, or where she goes on her weekends.

Yodrak,

Your point is well taken;thanks!

How seriously do they take the G-325A address business though?

Joe,

One very experienced and highly respected immigration attorney consistently voices the opinion that the G-325A is an arcane form that is not taken seriously at all. Google 'folinskyinla G-325A' and you'll find numerous posts he has made in response to questions about G-325A.
