Sweden's relatively relaxed approach to controlling the spread of the coronavirus has come under fire in international media and from many locals in the capital Stockholm, where more than half the country's deaths have been recorded. Now, 22 researchers have publicly criticized the strategy and called on politicians to make changes.

Sweden deaths much higher than neighboring nations
The criticism comes as the Swedish death total hits new heights. 1,033 people have now died from COVID-19 in Sweden, according to the Swedish Public Health Agency. That's an increase of 114 in the past 24 hours. The daily update also confirms that 11,445 people have tested positive in Sweden with 915 receiving or having received intensive care treatment.

I was surprised to see that Sweden's death rate per 1M people is actually higher than the US, and it's more than double that of other Scandinavian countries.

Well, as quite coincidentally mentioned in the other thread, they have more than double the cases of other Scandinavian countries too. Are they slowing down? yes. But, goes to show that lockdowns flatten the curve even more and faster with lower numbers of infection and mortality.

Well, from WEForum/Lancet they estimate suicide risk increase of 20-30% due to economic stress and unemployment, and back in 2008 economic crisis, the annual suicides increased by 12%.  I have not been able to find information related to deaths caused by alcohol or drugs due to increased usage during an economic crisis.  I assume you can build a model that would show a prediction.

That might be where I heard it. Death per million population is on is listed on the worldometers site, but I think the tendency is to focus on total deaths or total cases. I agree though, comparing Sweden to Spain or Italy might makes the numbers good, but comparing them to other Scandinavian countries shows they could be doing better.

Coronavirus Update: WHO Praises Sweden For Resisting Lockdown Despite Growing COVID-19 Cases And Deaths

Despite these alarming realities, Sweden's approach was still lauded by the World Health Organization (WHO). Surprisingly, WHO has praised Sweden as a “model” for battling COVID-19.

There are “lessons to be learned” from Sweden, which is relying on the self-discipline of its citizens to defeat the pandemic, contended Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of WHO's Health Emergencies Program, which is responsible for the international containment and treatment of COVID-19.

“I think there’s a perception out that Sweden has not put in control measures and just has allowed the disease to spread,” noted Dr. Ryan. “Nothing can be further from the truth.”

On Wednesday, Dr. Ryan told the media instead of lockdowns, Sweden has “put in place a very strong public policy around social distancing, around caring and protecting people in long term care facilities.”

Well, pretty much like everyone else they failed with the long term facilities.

That aside, their average increase per day for the last couple of days is like 3.6%, which is more than most at this point(MI is under 3%). Today, they are adding 790 people and already have over 2500 deaths, they aren't showing as strong of signs as slowing down as countries that took more measures. I'm not saying they're not at all or won't eventually, but you can definitely tell a difference.

I am not sure if they did as bad as Cuomo with actually putting Covid positive cases into long-term care facilities.

Anyway, we have already discussed the differences in the Swedish strategy, I tend to think they did a better job balancing the disease and the cure.  But the main reason I posted this is the mixed messaging we seem to get from the WHO.

Here is another one from Sweden.

Just based on the initial R0 number (before social distancing), true herd immunity for Covid-19 would require that ~65% of people are immune. May seems like an optimistic target date for that to happen.
