You could not have entered your bank information before April 15th.....It appears you will, indeed, receive a check.

Sorry for my lost of time, I entered my bank info the very morning IRS’s “Get my payment” went up online (the site was pretty laggy that morning).

Then I guess I must have got that screen last weekend / early this week then, sorry for the confusion.

I hope you guys will be receiving the check through direct deposit, could save you some hassles...

But if you guys like me and IRS will be sending you paper checks, then I think I read somewhere online that IRS will be sending paper checks in a lots of wave based on income brackets (people with lowest income will receive checks faster)

Hey everyone. Anyone still getting payment status not available?

I'm a US born citizen and have always filed taxes (still living abroad for 8 years now waiting for I-130 for my wife). I try adding my foreign address and it doesn't seem to work. I add the address exactly as I did on my 2018 tax return but still nothing.

My child also was born in mid 2019 and I'm still waiting for her SS number (had to apply for the SS number through Costa Rica and it takes forever for mail to get here in Chile). I haven't filed my 2019 taxes because of this.

Will I be able to get her $500 extra? I make under 75k living overseas. I file married filing separately because we live overseas and my wife is a NRA.

USCIS Stage:

  • Nov 12 2019: NOA1 (NSC)
  • Dec 17 2019: I-129f Received
  • May 15 2020: I-130 Approved!

NVC Stage:

  • May 16 2020: Case Created
  • May 16 2020: Fees Paid
  • May 22 2020: Sent IV & AOS Packages
  • May 29 2020: Request for more documents (proof of assets)
  • May 30 2020: Resubmitted NVC documents
  • June 15, 2020: DQ'd!

If you file for 2019 and include the child with ITIN, then no payment to either of you based on 2019 return. If she gets a SSN in time and you file with it, then both of you would qualify.

So they're waiting for me to file my 2019 taxes, that's why I haven't received payment yet?

They're not waiting for you to do anything.

It's possible the system to look it up just doesn't work with your foreign address. If you had no tax liability or owed money, then they don't have your bank account information on file and they would send the check to your address from the 2018 return. They would use the 2018 return for your address and to determine how much you get as that's the latest they have on file right now.

Last I read, physical checks supposedly will start being sent out this week, although it may take a few to several months to get one due to the volume involved. Supposedly they would be sending to the lowest income earners first.

When you file the 2019 returns, if they haven't yet scheduled the payment to be sent out, they may use the 2019 return information instead. Nobody is really sure of when the cutoff is.

According to information that we have on file, we cannot determine your eligibility for a payment at this time.

They should pay on a 2018 1040 tax return with a SSN if the income qualified, but not 1040NR. We have not filed 2019 and were paid the first day (April 15).  Do they have your correct bank info on your 2018 return?

I did, I received my 2018 return through direct deposit. But its talking so long to get the stimulus check its making me nervous that I may not able to get it.

I applied for my wife's ITIN as part of my 2019 return (return and W-7 mailed March 10, ITIN not received yet). IRS deposited the stimulus money (just for me, one person) into my account on April 15th. My guess is they used my 2018 return (filed single with my SSN) to determine my eligibility as my 2019 return either got lost or has either not been processed yet(ITIN estimates the processing time for ITIN to be 9 to 11 weeks during peek season, no pandemic going on).

Let's see if they make me return the money since my 2019 return will have an ITIN on it.

I did not know about the ITIN restriction until I read a news piece about it on nytimes just now. The news piece is mostly about how the language of the bill is affecting people married to undocumented immigrants but seems it'll affect the documented as well.
