I think what people continually miss when comparing deaths from flu to deaths from corona virus is that for the most part, these are additional deaths, they're not replacing flu deaths. While I'm sure some overlap could be expected, it does add many deaths. But that's not the only thing - it also happens fast. As we've seen, hospitals get overwhelmed, and doctors need to make a decision of who to treat and who not to treat. 

 

But here's the main thing they're missing: the figures that they use to say "this is what we are doing all this for?" are precisely a consequence of doing that. It wouldn't stop at 68k otherwise. This is the best case scenario.

 

So I'm really not sure what their point is. It's clear, even based on their own data that they present, that corona spreads faster, causes more severe cases quicker, and ultimately adds quite a multiple to the number of deaths we would end up with the flu alone. They also seem to forget that unlike the flu, we have no vaccine for this. It would make no sense to take such drastic measures against something you either have somewhat of a natural immunity to and/or a vaccine. This is not the case here.
