Hi!

I’m currently needing to get a state ID. I don’t have a driver’s license (i don’t drive), so I’ve always used my Permanent resident card for ID purposes. My green card is about to expire, and due to the current situation with COVID19 i don’t know if I will be able to get an appointment with the DMV before the expiration date. I do have the extension letter for my green card. I was wondering if the DMV will accept my “expired” green card along with the extension letter.

i would appreciate any info or experiences you can share with me. Thanks

The DMV would accept  your green card  along with  the NOA letter you received. It extends your residency for 18 months. Don’t forget to show up with your ss card as well.

Is it a real ID or just a normal ID? I tried to apply for a real ID using my expired green card and extension letter but the DMV did not accept it. Some people suggest to try at different DMV.

Just normal ID if that’s what they’re willing to give me. I just want some kind of ID. Hopefully they’ll take my expired green card and the extension letter.

Thanks! I hope they do accept it.

I think for normal ID they will accept expired green card and extension letter. I would bring the outline of the accepted forms to the dmv in case the representative does not know
