Bernie Sanders endorsed Joe Biden for president on Monday, but any illusions that the move would bring an end to long-simmering tensions between the Democratic Party's liberal and moderate wings quickly evaporated in a matter of minutes.

Briahna Joy Gray, who served as Sanders' national press secretary, and prominent Sanders surrogate Shaun King immediately took aim at Biden -- and they made it clear just how much the former vice president's platform differed from Sanders' longstanding policy goals.

"With the utmost respect for Bernie Sanders, who is an incredible human being & a genuine inspiration, I don't endorse Joe Biden," Gray wrote. "I supported Bernie Sanders because he backed ideas like #MedicareForAll, cancelling ALL student debt, & a wealth tax. Biden supports none of those."

Additionally, Gray indicated she agreed that it was "almost insulting" for Biden to suggest lowering the Medicare eligibility age to 60, in lieu of adopting universal health coverage.

Hopefully enough of these populist lefties aren't bluffing when they say they won't vote for Biden. Less establishment on any side is a good thing!

That's true, but even though he's a "socialist" (Independent), I think a lot of people assume his appeal is strictly left wing, and that invokes the difficult "left-right paradigm" debate. 

 

Even on FOX, on the usual right websites, Breitbart, Federalist, and so on, they, whether deliberately or accidentally, almost exclusively miss that populism (in our discussion about contemporary politics which is the assumed default) sits outside that paradigm, has for quite a while now (think Perot, Nader, and further back as well) and it's more evident in the kind of rust belt states that tends to decide elections. These people are a viable threat to Democrats. The party drones will be naturally too caught up in their confirmation bias slobbering to understand the sociocultural dynamic, but I guarantee the party understands. Of course, the drones also comically miss that the party is run by an establishment that would rather lose an election than allow non-handpicked people to win fairly. That is why they went through the trouble of coordinating this many candidates to run and pull down Bernie's numbers, followed by that coordinated drop-out when the psychological advantage started going the party establishment's way. 

 

I've seen a lot more Sanders supporters this time around not merely threaten against voting, but to vote for Trump. At minimum, his supporters should be able to understand the spine he lacks, but also no doubt more are questioning whether or not he's simply controlled opposition with how easily he capitulates, and later benefits.

It seems to be more of a left far-left debate.  Maybe the political spectrum is not as much a line as it is a circle, so if folks get far enough left, they actually start voting right.

A lot of people think that, but there are actually quite a number of moderate populists, which is why I mentioned the rust belt states. But when we think of them in the left-right spectrum, with that paradigm's rules, we have to inaccurately make certain assumptions, and often based on very few criteria. The parties however have analytics and data that are substantially in depth when it comes to ideological positioning, so they know how to target people and topics in a way that specifically limits things to left-right.

 

People aren't by nature left-right, but if one can psychologically compel them to think that way, they can then control the discourse, which is why you never see progress, as in, resolution, on those key "wedge" issues. 

 

Populists are one example of why left-right is a fabrication, but like any fabrication, like say, religion, it's as real as people believe it is.. they behave precisely within that spectrum, which is why the parties benefit so much, why Congress has such a low approval rating yet such a high incumbency rate. In the end, its people that don't change, and when they do, for example, to vote for a populist like Trump, you see the chaos it throws the great many (in the "political" world) who benefit from that useless binary status quo.

Sort of. They're not Democrats, they're more independents. They're the people that helped Obama win, then helped Trump win.

Did y'all happen to catch that online "conversation" yesterday between Biden and Bernie???? Biden can't even speak without using cue cards or a teleprompter.

I wanna feel bad for him, but even in his near-incapacitated state, he's still choosing to go through with this Weekend at Bernie's (pun intended) stunt for his party establishment buddies. Not helping his own lifespan, not helping the country. Ridiculous. Just retire in peace, there are plenty of establishment cronies with the same capability of losing to Trump. Or, he could grow a conscience and bow out to Bernie, resulting in Democrats being forced to appeal to populists like Republicans are.

What's sad are the Democrats that are going along with this whole Biden charade dismissing his clear signs of dementia saying that "he suffers from stuttering problems and this is a result of that". When in actuality he is clearly clearly suffering from dementia. What's funny is that on the local NC politics page someone posted on there "The next American Revolution is Remember in November to defeat Trump and all his Republican enablers who knew better yet failed to speak up, placing country above political partisanship and fear of a treacherous bully". I responded that it's so bad that you have a candidate that doesn't even remember where he is at or what race he is running in, and no one can respond back to me which is shocking. 

When I mean it's shocking that no one replied back I mean it is shocking because I had a conversation with people about a different comment on there that lasted over 150 interactions between the 3 or 4 of us.
