I-751 interview

Hello everyone! Has anyone here had an interview for I-751? I wonder what questions they ask and how long it takes. Just want to have an idea.

Also, once you have the interview for you I-751, will they tell you when will you get your GC?

Many have had an interview (but not the majority, if VJ stats are a good indicator). Having an interview is not a sign of anything wrong. If you did not have an interview for AOS (I'm assuming you did AOS from a K-1 given your profile, which is sometimes has the interview waived), expect one for ROC (under current policy).

 

The types of questions asked will depend on your circumstances, much like an AOS or K-1 interview. A very small sample include "Where did you meet?", "What does [x] do for a living?", "What do you do for fun?" etc. Things any ordinary couple would know.

Most interviews tend to take minutes....probably 5-15 minutes once you are in the office? I'll defer to others but that's the perception I've received from others.

In rare cases, it can take over an hour, such as if they separate you and your spouse and ask you both the same questions to compare answers. This is not common....it's usually when they suspect fraud already (it's too time consuming to do for a lot of cases). The questions here might be more in-depth, like asking about colors of curtains (i.e. if they don't believe you actually live together).

 

If your case doesn't have red flags and you have "normal" relationship evidence, expect either the interview waived or a simple interview.

You can ask if they will approve or not. No guarantees if they will give you a satisfactory response. They may need to review the case more, get a supervisor to sign off, etc.

Where did you meet? / How did you meet?

What is your job? How long have you had this job? (was asked of both of us)

"Why did you guys move so much?" (concerning why we had different addresses/apartment leases within the span of our time moving to the US)

What are your plans for the future? (or something along these lines, don't remember the exact wording)

 

IO also asked for any additional evidence that we had not submitted with the original packet. She took everything we had, which included new leases, bank statements, utility bills, travel proof, etc.

 

IO also made a comment that we had submitted a lot of evidence already and had the huge stack of our file + previously submitted evidence on the desk during the interview, which I gather is why she didn't ask us too many detailed questions except the ones above. On average, if you submit more evidence beforehand, you will have an easier interview.

IO told us we were approved and the card would come in the mail, but they said it could take a couple weeks. We did not ask this, the IO just said it at the end of the interview, have no idea if that is common or not.

Millefleur and Geowrian . Thank you so much. This is so helpful. I appreciate it. We have all the evidence like joint account, mortgage, insurance, utility bills, tax return and pictures from some of our trips. I think the only negative is, we have a different address right now. But as I’ve been reading about this online, they are just really looking if your marriage is bona fide. So did you get your GC already and how long did it take for you? I know that it’s case to case basis but just want to have an idea.

By "different address" do you mean that you currently live separately?

We live separately currently but sometimes I go there sometimes he comes here so it’s a little bit different. And that’s why I’m worried about. But everything else, we have everything to show. We will both go to the interview too.

What is the reason for living separately? Because that will 100% come up at some point as it is considered to be a red flag.

Cuz we are thinking to sell our house but hasn't decided yet. We do see each other and we do talk and like I said that we all have the documents that we can provide. That is why I am a little afraid. I am so stressed out and cant even sleep sometimes.

Thinking of selling the house means you have to live separately? Is there something physically wrong with the house that 2 people cannot occupy it? 

 

Are you currently separated as in planning for divorce? It's just very unusual that a happily married couple would chose to live apart unless there's a very good reason (such as one has to go to another city for a job, etc.)

You “see each other” and “talk”. What does that mean?

Living in different homes sounds suspicious, seems to me you guys are separated if your living in diff places in the same city.

 

this will be a very big flag for them and will probably ask for more evidence that will make sense on why and if it’s not satisfactory it will be a denial.
