If I really wanted the test and couldn't get it anywhere else, I guess I would pay. Otherwise I don't see the point. I saw they have an antibody test but it wasn't available to purchase. I'd rather do that one and see if I am immune. At least it tells you something you can use going forward.

I agree, I want the antibody test so I can get my immunity card.

The US at least closed the front door even if that was late, but they did not do anything at all about the back door, Europe.  Europe did not do anything until Italy was exploding  A lot of people failed on this globally, we have the UN/WHO toeing the CCP line, we have the CDC, and NIAID not taking on testing immediately, and I will agree, Trump failed for putting faith in the bureaucrats, and not restricting travel early enough.  Additionally, all the governors that have their own public health teams taking their cues from the WHO and CDC did nothing until it was too late.  And let’s not forget China for hiding this thing and silencing their own for months, but I suppose we should expect that.  My only point is this does not fall under the complete authority of the President.  To my knowledge, the governors of each state are not direct reports to the President, and they ave more public health powers than the federal government does.  If we want to play the blame game, let’s put it everywhere it belongs, we can add the mayors of the major cities as well.  As you said in an earlier post, governments are reactionary by nature (my interpretation), rarely do they do any that can be considered preplanning other than to spend some money to equip a strategic reserve.

Ok, now I feel like we're getting somewhere. Although I have to say, closing the front door after you already have a burglar in your house doesn't really do a whole lot. The smart thing to do at the time would have been prepare for and try to prevent community spread, as it was pretty obvious there have already been plenty of potentially infected people from China who entered. But alas. As I said, Europe was late, the US was even later. I'm also not saying China and the WHO aren't responsible as well - I was commenting on someone else's post who said they were the only two to blame. I'm not the one playing a blame game - I'm merely telling those who are that if they think for a second that the WHO is more responsible than the leaders of the US, Germany, England, France, Italy and Spain, they might need to take a deeper dive into how all of this actually went down. And yes, indeed, governments are very reactionary by nature and what better example than this.

See, that is where we disagree, the EU’s response was way worse than the US.  Regardless, it was a lose-lose situation for any President, prime minister or governor.  There is much to learn about this outbreak like why do CA, OR, and WA have such low numbers?  This cannot be explained simply by physical distancing rules as the virus was circulating way before any of those recommendations were put in place.  This leads to questions regarding the scope of the denominator in all these predictive models that are being used to drive this response.  The medical community also is learning a lot about how best to treat this illness in its worst form. I realize I am a little more jaded than most since I live in MI where our governor just enacted rules actually determining personal movement and what people can buy causing a lot of confusion (at one point a child’s car seat was interpreted to be furniture thereby an unnecessary product).  Now when I see an obvious false narrative being pushed by the leftist media, I will call it out.  Has Trump reacted perfectly, no, has the federal government bureaucrats reacted perfectly, no, have the governors reacted perfectly, no, have the state bureaucrats reacted perfectly, no.  As to the UN/WHO, their leaders need to go, and it the pulling of funding works as a tool to institute some changes, it needs to happen.

What makes you say the EU's response was worse? I remember talking to some friends from a crypto telegram community I'm in and they were all starting to order masks the second week in February already. Also, this is a real post from Feb 24:

China has performed nearly 200,000 tests.

South Korea has performed nearly 28,000 tests.

Meanwhile, US--with most expensive, but most dysfunctional, healthcare system on planet--has performed just 414 tests and has little or no capacity to perform more...

Lets be real, the way we handled it was a joke. Everyone knew we had more than like the 20 cases or so they were telling us forever was all we had...there was no testing done. This also ties into the conversation I had with voice of reason about it. That same day Italy's confirmed cases surged from three on Friday morning to more than 200 by that Monday. Strict emergency measures including a ban on public events in at least 10 municipalities, were already taken, which included the closure of public buildings, limited transport, and the surveillance and quarantine of individuals who may have been exposed to the virus.

The problem was, European leaders met, and for some ridiculous reason decided to keep all borders open. But what was the US doing during that time? Nothing. Flights were still coming in from Europe. We weren't testing. We weren't closing schools. We weren't quarantining. We were sitting on our hands till mid march.

Regarding CA, my theory is it has alot to do with the weather. WA had a huge outburst and was the first to take extreme measures to stem it and were successful. Haven't looked deep into OR though.

Based on the simple fact that the EU has over 67k deaths with a similar population as the US.  Everyone handled this poorly, but the other reason I mention the EU is that they put no restrictions on travel from China back in January/February, and they did not suspend Shengen until after the virus had gained a foothold.  I suppose if a government wanted to ensure mass spread, they would follow the EU’s model.  Now that is not saying the US did much better, but we did delay things a bit to allow states to prepare, but of course most of them did nothing.

The actual story behind that is pretty interesting and not as simple as that.
