I guess you weren't paying attention in real time, but I was. Lonnnnngggg before declaring it a pandemic they urged action to be taken, precisely to prevent it from becoming a pandemic and having to declare it one. That's Feb 22 but I guarantee you they sounded other warnings way way prior to that, I just don't have time to search further. I remember it clearly. Just because you guys weren't paying attention and now want to lay blame on the wrong people doesn't mean it's the way it went down.

That's Feb 22 but I guarantee you they sounded other warnings way way prior to that, I just don't have time to search further. I remember it clearly. Just because you guys weren't paying attention and now want to lay blame on the wrong people doesn't mean it's the way it went down. 

Yeah, I generally don’t pay much attention to any arms of the UN.  Again, the WHO was sending out mixed messages, on the one hand saying this did not spread person-to-person, and restrictions of travel to and from China were wrong when they should have been advising every country to restrict travel to and from China.  Where was that recommendation for containment back in January and February?  To me, what came after was just political CYA which is expected from a political organization like the WHO.  The US funding for the UN, WHO and PAHO should be pulled completely.

Yes, and when things change, it is time for the politicians to cover their respective you know whats.  Heck, even Fauci was saying in late January there was nothing to worry about.

You're correct, the info put out by the WHO was no better nor timely than that by the CDC.  Not blaming either organization, because if China was reporting anything even CLOSE to what they actually were seeing, I think everyone the world over would have jumped thru their you-know-whats to tighten things up.  No one in December or January could have seen how bad this thing was.

I completely agree, so why are we seeing these hit pieces against President Trump only over this bat eating Chinese coughing death virus?  More media narrative along the lines of Russian collusion?  I imagine it is, but I am still in favor of cutting the US funding to the UN and WHO just out of principle.

For the exact same reason we are being told to stay home, and the same reason our economy is being pushed into failure.  The virus is simply the mechanism, not the reason (for those willing to open their eyes).

To me it's not "even fauci". The us completely dropped the ball on this even moreso than other countries. For the longest time they were hardly even conducting tests which is totally the cdc's fault. I am no more a fan of the U.N. than anyone else in here, but to buy into the fake news that this is somehow all the who's fault and absolve trump and European leaders of their responsibility is laughable to me

Now I agree with you about the last part. There were very few people I know in January who thought this could turn into such a big deal (They do exist though). I wasn't agreeing with going into February with it but dec/Jan I definitely didn't see this coming either

Because no serious action was taken till a month ago. Europe was late, and we are several weeks behind them even.

   The who had the virus sequenced at the end of December. They had a test kit ready in January and wanted countries to start testing. The US declined to use those kits. Whatever mistakes the WHO made, such as overlooking asymptomatic spread, we made an order of magnitude worse.

 

  Much of the criticism directed at the WHO is pure deflection. Whether they were right or wrong, were not listening to what they were saying anyway. We made our own mistakes and we need to own that first.

It is indeed laughable. Are we somehow pretending that the US just had no idea what was going on? We have intelligence agencies that we share with other agencies, POTUS is briefed every day...  we. know. things. Heck a simple browse of twitter back then and other sources were showing what was going on in China. How is it other countries knew to act more quickly? I just don't understand the constant pretzel twisting and excuses.

How many were available? At what price?  We never heard that info.  I seriously doubt they had enough tests for a country as small as Korea, let alone the US, at that time.  Besides, testing is no longer the issue.  Those can be done in every state now.

Testing still continues to be an issue. We still do not have enough test kits in this state. We still aren't sure how accurate the tests are.

Not true.  Did you see the other link I provided about testing at home?  I cannot attest to the accuracy, of course, but a friend who THOUGHT he had it ordered a kit online, it was hand-delivered the next day, and he had his results a few hours later.

The company also accidentally mailed him a kit, and he's trying to contact them to find out how to give it back to them.

The US at least closed the front door even if that was late, but they did not do anything at all about the back door, Europe.  Europe did not do anything until Italy was exploding  A lot of people failed on this globally, we have the UN/WHO toeing the CCP line, we have the CDC, and NIAID not taking on testing immediately, and I will agree, Trump failed for putting faith in the bureaucrats, and not restricting travel early enough.  Additionally, all the governors that have their own public health teams taking their cues from the WHO and CDC did nothing until it was too late.  And let’s not forget China for hiding this thing and silencing their own for months, but I suppose we should expect that.  My only point is this does not fall under the complete authority of the President.  To my knowledge, the governors of each state are not direct reports to the President, and they ave more public health powers than the federal government does.  If we want to play the blame game, let’s put it everywhere it belongs, we can add the mayors of the major cities as well.  As you said in an earlier post, governments are reactionary by nature (my interpretation), rarely do they do any that can be considered preplanning other than to spend some money to equip a strategic reserve.
