We got the direction that there was no asymptomatic transmission. They had confirmed direct human to human transmission in late December. They (and everyone else) were wrong about asymptomatic transmission.

"Preliminary investigations conducted by the Chinese authorities have found no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel #coronavirus (2019-nCoV) identified in #Wuhan, #China," the organization had said.

Well, I don't remember that convo.  And with us testing 10,000-12,000 daily, I doubt it would have made any difference at all.

It might have when we only had a few cases. If we had tested everyone on the first flight back, we would have known back in January that people could be positive and asymptomatic. That would have made a huge difference in policy and in slowing down the spread.

We both read the report from the WHO website that said they had already identified human to human transmission in late December in Wuhan. Unless they have different people saying different things.

Either way though, as I said, mistakes made by the WHO does not absolve us of our own mistakes. Of which there were plenty.

I never said it did.  My only beef is with the leftist media’s current narrative to place all the blame on President Trump.  Of course this is predictable given the nature of TDS,  it with all the other actors out there deserving of blame, it just shows how biased the media and Left are.

Out of curiosity, why do you think the WHO would tweet out something that they obviously knew was false?  Seems like that organization was also playing politics.

Could be, or it could be that whoever is responsible for social media was not in the loop. The WHO can learn from it's mistakes too, and that was one. We need to stop deflecting so we can learn from ours too. Otherwise we'll be in the same boat next time. We have a lot to work on ourselves.

Bureaucrats rarely ever learn from their mistakes.  They tend to just rely on CYA tactics.  Sometimes a melt and re-pour is in order, or at the very least, forcing out the top level administration.

Actually, it's free if one has insurance.

Not on most insurances actually. Testing must be conducted by an approved in-network lab and or approved in-network hospital and that's the only way it's going to be at no cost.

How many insurances do you have?

Don't most insurances come with a HSA?  Like an Optum card?  I know I can pay for just about ANYTHING medical with my card, and don't even need to file an insurance claim.

Or you can pay nothing if you get the test done at an in-network provider. That's what Yuna said. Using your HRA is still paying.

Most people I know do not use HSAs, and I certainly have no use for them. The insurers set the rules for coverage regarding COVID and it's clear again that unless it's conducted by an approved lab or hospital setting it is not free of cost. Even your HSA has rules - such as the one you mentioned, Optum:

Quote

This means that HSA funds are not required for COVID-19 diagnostic testing provided at approved locations in accordance with CDC guidelines. In the event that a plan is not waiving these costs, individuals will be able to use HSA funds for those costs without jeopardizing the qualified status of their high-deductible health plan.

HSA can only be used for spending on approved items. In the event the insurer wasn't covering the test, an HSA could be used but it still needs to be used at an approved location. You might not need to file a claim on whatever you're buying off of the HSA, but if for some reason you tried using it on an item that's not approved? You'll find out really fast.

I get that.   But since I don't put any money into my HSA, I have paid nothing (so it's free to me), just used the resources given me in the way I see fit.  To each their own.

I would rather use my HSA to pay for actual medical bills and get the Covid-19 test done free, but to each their own I guess.

Would make sense to me as well. I'd rather have the test done free of cost to me, without using some random place I have no idea the accuracy of or if my insurance company is going to get pissy at me later for using an HSA for something I wasn't supposed to. Then again most of us MDers still can't get a test if they need it. My dad made the cut, but hey they don't seem to know if it gave them an accurate reading or not.

How about we discuss this on the actual thread I made, keeping it on topic, as opposed to trashing this one?

If I really wanted the test and couldn't get it anywhere else, I guess I would pay. Otherwise I don't see the point. I saw they have an antibody test but it wasn't available to purchase. I'd rather do that one and see if I am immune. At least it tells you something you can use going forward.
