So my fiance and I received a notice of approval in January, and the Packet 3 information in March. We have been unable to complete the paperwork due to COVID-19. We have until May 15th and I doubt we will have it all done. What do I need to do? Is there a way to extend that deadline? Also, my fiance is unable to get his police certificate done we need that before submitting packet 3... What should we do? What should our next steps be?

Everyone is facing similar problems due to the shutdown. You will have to email the consulate for a revalidation and extend your I-129F. In the meantime, keep an eye out for developments and slowly start getting ready for the interview. We don't know when consulates will open again, but you should try to gather up your documentation as best as you can.

I learned the hard way, I hope YOU don't have to. Advice: learn, learn, learn.

The validity of the NOA2 is for four months. They want you to complete your visa processing at the consulate during that window. The reason is that they have thousands of approved applicants and they need to keep things moving along or they will back up if everyone decides they want to process in a particular month then the other months there are relatively few interviews. So, to keep things moving along they put a date on the NOA2. If for some reason, illness, death in the family or some other valid reason, your consulate can extend the visa at their discretion. I think the COVID-19 virus will be an event covered and will be extended so I wouldn't worry.

Most consulates will automatically extend the petition validity, but confirming that via email is a good idea.

Do you know the email that I should email about this?

Probably would be good to identify the consulate.   It will be something like IVxxxxxxxxxxx@state.gov

YMMV

It would be easier for us to answer your questions if we had bit more information about your profile.

We need a little housekeeping on your end. Many of our answers are predicated on the information you supply in your profile. When we look at the left column and can't determine your timeline OR your Embassy it's hard for us to give you a factual answer. Our answers will sometimes be tailored to a specific Embassy hence the reason for you to complete your profile. If you look at the profile of others here, they have a flag for their country, so it makes it easy for us to reply as we can quickly determine their Embassy. The country that should be used is the country where the interview will take place.

So, if you could help yourself out and complete your profile that sure would help us out when we want to reply to your question with factual information.

Once you finish that then return and you will see a flag in your profile. Select it and see what wonderful information will open up for you.

Thanks

We are in a pandemic and the governmental offices and the embassies are running with a skeleton and in some cases are completely closed. Nothing is going to happen until this virus dissipates.  There will be action announced closer to the opening of the embassies on how they will address those who had interviews scheduled and those who want to schedule an interview. Also, if you have a NOA2 about to expire there is no reason to panic or be concerned. That too will be addressed by the embassies once we are closer to opening. We are in a wait and see mode till the embassies start opening again. BTW, this is my opinion and that is the embassies will begin to open with those that are in a less affected area then those in highly affected areas. Best place to be tuned in to what will happen at the embassy level is to be on their webpage because that is where the announcement and further instructions will be posted.

@Greenbaum What is the normal waiting time for 'in transit' to 'ready'? It has been 13 days for me 'in transit' whereas there are others who has the same shipment date as me already have theirs 'ready'. I thought they sent an electronic too. I need some sign of whats going on. :(

What is the normal waiting time for 'in transit' to 'ready'? Depends. There is no definitive answer to that question as the flight times are different, the transit process once on the ground is different and has various times of movement that are different for any one shipment. The embassies have diverse levels of how they handle a file and when they throw the switch on CEAC to "ready". I can guess what normal looks like; three days to three weeks.

We are not in regular times. Comparing yourself to others and to others whose embassy is different from yours is a recipe for anxiety, doubt, and frustration. You're feeling that burn now. There is no NORMAL anymore, till things get back to normal. What I tell you today was different than yesterday and has a higher possibility to be different tomorrow. Nothing that happens now will get you that interview till the embassies open. Whether your record says in transit or ready will not give you an interview. I wish I had the news you wanted to hear, but I don't sugarcoat my answers. In the meantime, be safe.

You are right @Greenbaum, I do feel very anxious and a lot of doubt. I am trying not to look right now no matter how hard it can get. I know that they are not doing any interviews atm but I was wishing that the packet 3 would come in so that I could acknowledged and return the slip (you shared with me the link in other thread and I have printed it out).

Just thought to share about the DHL hack, I called the hotline and enquired about it. Maybe I was lucky or circumstantial, the lady explained to me that there were shipments from NH to Singapore via CT then LAX to Singapore this week. I don't have the airway bill to track but it is a great alternative to check calling them and give them the postal code of NVC in NH to your destination embassy. In times like this, they were able to tell me the flights and the delivery day. So that was helpful to a certain extend. Just thought to share in case your DHL hack online don't work. Perhaps a call to their hotline could help.

What information about your embassy did they need? I want to update the PDF with your added information and want to be exact on what is being asked by the DHL CS rep. Thanks.

@Greenbaum  The following is my DHL hack version. Maybe you or someone else could further improve it!

  • Tried the DHL hack online under shippers' reference but not avail
  • Call local DHL hotline
  • Told them that I did not have the AWB/reference number however I have the shipper's zip (NH 03801) and the destination zip code (your designated US embassy postal code)
  • They ran a check for their pick up from the NVC. Depending on your embassy location, it departs to different locations/make it on different flights. They were not able to give exact flight details but they did mention the flights that were coming in from wherever the package is and when it arrive into your country, when it would be delivered.

I hope this helps!
