Sadly, the majority of American's are misinformed,  Why read boring scientific research when you can turn to cable TV and have Don Lemon spoon feed his narrative to you?.

Sure one can trust NASA and NOAA after they were caught manipulating data to support their conclusions. 

 

Climate change is big business and no doubt as turned into a psuedo religion that can’t be questioned.

So based on your logic...

Yes, imagine that, understanding the complex science of climate change requires actual knowledge and Joe Shmoe is not equipped to do that. I guess it's also elitist that I want my heart surgeon to have gone to medical school and I don't care what random people have to say about the issue? 

 

Scientific consensus is reached when many scientists look at the data and based on the data they conclude that the evidence is overwhelming about a certain conclusion. It's not just them gathering and having fun while agreeing to support something. It's the evidence being so overwhelming that there's literally no way two ignore. There is a scientific consensus on the link between cigarette smoking and lung cancer for example. Or that radiation causes cancer. Regular people debating any of this are just doing something pointless. 

 

Believe it or not, not everyone with a degree from the Google University is qualified to understand complex issues.

Climate science, just like this Covid19 action, is based on very flawed models and outright guesses, and yes, I do have the education to evaluate that and in fact have used many of these models.  Several of the leaders in the field (Michael Mann for instance) will not even discuss or let anyone peer review the model algorithm he uses, I wonder why.   It if you think regular people should not be questioning the self appointed elite scientists, then why are you discussing it?  Do you ask questions of your Dr. or Dentist, or just follow whatever they say on faith?

"Expertise" isn't useful if it produces no real world results. Coincidentally, it's also not science. But it is amazingly far more like religion. You can find millions.. billions, in fact, who insist on the same thing without a shred of proof. Looks like you have a winner.

 

And thus why appeal to authority is anti-science. The left aren't stupid, they know this (they use this very logic to throw religions aside), but because its not about the truth, but about getting their way, they gladly wield the appeal to authority cudgel and bludgeon people with it as often as possible.
