Hi, I actually shouldn't post this here because I am not a fiance, but I found that nearly all discussions about mental illnesses are in this section. I really hope someone can share their similar experiences.

I was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2018 after a suicide attempt.Have been on meds since and is very stable now.

I am considering pursuing a masters degree in the US 3 years later when I am 5 years stable as my doctor advised and find a job(it's relatively easy to find a job as i am software engineer) there and try to settle down. Moving to the United States has been a dream of my life since I was a kid.My illness really got in the way but I am still not willing to just give up.

Has anyone and anyone with a loved one with a schizophrenic history or suicide attempt has experience with the medical exam? Will I get denied immediately?

Thanks.

You will not get denied just on the merits of being schizophrenic. The medical is interested in health conditions that are inadmissible. At your medical examining you will be asked questions concerning your medical history. A physical exam will be completed which will include observation of any attempts to suicide. I am not sure about your embassy, but the medical exam that is completed in the Philippines a higher propensity of seeing these types of cases. Those cases are referred to a Phycologist for further consultation. The results of that consultation is then a part of your record which will be pass forward to your embassy for the use of the CO to adjudicate your case. Most in the Philippines had no problem with either the Phycologist interview or their recommendation. Most if not all went on to receive a visa.

I hope this puts your mind at ease. You may want to go to the CDC and USCIS websites for further information and clarification.
