Hey guys, I just recieved my EAD card with my surname spelled wrong. I've put the e-request on USCIS website but i dont know what my next step is. Has anyone experienced the same thing? Can I start applying for jobs with this card even though my surname is spelled wrong? The rest of the information on the card is correct. I'm so sad it happened and I'd like to start applying for jobs as soon as possible. Thanks a lot for your help, guys

Yes, and employers are allowed to hire you with the card.

Ok, thanks a lot. It's not even my mistake. The I-765 I submitted has my surname spelled right.

I believe the necessary steps to rectify it is on your approval letter, read it through its in there. Which are but not limited to...mailing the EAD card back alongside a copy of your birth certificate.

Congratulations ! Did you call Social Security to see if the immigrant name is in their system ?

I did call SSN and they said they can't look up someone unless they have a SSN, I explained the situation and just got the run around. 2 days later, the Social security card that says limit to work came in the mail. I think it was just delayed, but its an official card so I'd assume its in the system.

So we got a letter for biometrics for our i-131 on saturday. But we have already done it for I485 and 765. Also the combo card came in the mail about a month ago. Will I have to go to the bio appointment for AP since I already have my combo card? I saw this happen to someone else but cant find what happened.

The same thing happened to me and 2 other in the march thread. We went to biometrics 2 months ago and received our EAD last month.

We're just going to go to be safe. Tried calling, but couldnt get to anyone.

Finally we had an appointment with SSA today (waited for 3 weeks) to apply for SSN. We brought husband’s passport and

combocard. The SS guy in the window asked my husband to fill the form SS-5, then looked in his computer and said, «Somebody already did it for you ».. Turned out since October 19 my husband’s name is in the SS system, he has SSN and his SS card is in the mail👏😀🤭🙏 The guy gave us my husband’s SSN. Now we just have to wait for the SS card to arrive.

P.S. Biometrics 8/28, combo 9/29, AOS interview scheduled 10/29.

Congratulations. I received my combo card 10/02 and i havn't yet received yet my SS card. Until now I can't get an appointment and i called office here in California to get one but they said fax us a letter with ur phone number and why u need it and we put you on waiting list to get an appointment, I did that like a week ago and I haven't heard anything yet, I asked the representative if I'm already in the system, she checked with my name and said no. Did u called before to check if ur name is on system

We're getting very frustrated with the whole SSN thing. My husband received his EAD card in August, but still hasn't been able to get his SSN. Every time he calls, they tell him he needs to mail in his original birth certificate, EAD card, and passport. Once they verified those documents, then they will schedule an appointment. Why does he have to mail in the most important documents he has? We can't risk those going missing while he's waiting for his green card. He checked the box saying he wanted the SSN automatically assigned too, so it's very annoying that one hasn't been and he can't get one now.

Also, his Green Card status has been stuck on "biometrics scheduled" since late July. He had his biometrics taken on August 12th. He got his EAD & his AP, but no change has been made associated with his GC. He calls every other week and can't make any progress on either. And, no one will hire him without his SSN. He was offered 3 jobs so far and all backed out. I feel so badly that he's basically just stuck in limbo.
Just venting, but I still don't understand why he needs to send his original documents off just to have an appointment scheduled.

Yes, we did. And no, the name was NOT in the system.

Did you try to call DIFFERENT local SSA offices around to schedule an appointment? Did you try to ask for their fax number to fax them what they need?

He tried several places, they all said the same thing. And they won’t let him fax anything. They said they need to see the original documents in hand to verify that he is eligible for an SSN. When they get those, he will go in line for an appointment.

But we can’t risk these documents going missing while he waits for his AOS interview.

That is odd. If original documents are actually mailed in with SS-5 form they should issue SSN without needing the applicant to be present, per the SSA Program Operations Manual System.

I was in same situation as you, I called social security office after receiving my Ead card and they told me I'm not in the system and ask me to fax a letter explaining my urgent need for SSN and they will put me on waiting list. But just yesterday I called again to check if my name is in their system and good news:I just issued a SSN few days ago and my card will be mailed to me in 2 to 3 weeks that what they told me. I received my EAD card October 2. Try to call to check if your husband name in the system because I just called like a week ago and they told me I'm not. Good luck
