Hi all, we are trying to send out our AOS paperwork in the next few days as well but I find this i-944 form very confusing and scary. I wasn't able to get on my husband's insurance plan on time as he got laid of due to COVID the day after we got married so I am hoping to get some kind of individual insurance tomorrow so we can complete the form.

I was wondering if some of you used foreign currency checking accounts in the Assets & Resources section? Can I include the balance on my foreign checking account (I still haven't opened an American account) and do I convert the GBP amount to USD using the statement date's exchange rate for Amount (U.S. dollars).

I translated the statements from my Danish account - using the day rate  and got my bank to write a letter too

my wife didn't have/use any assests, we just had my banking statements (12 months), 3year tax transcripts and 3 months of paystubs.

I submitted a screenshot of the IRS website showing that the tax deadline had been postponed to July 15th.

There was also a noticed issued explaining this. It is called Notice 2020-18. I printed this notice and referenced it in my husband's I-864 and my I-944.

Hope that helps.

Thank you so much! Glad to know other people are in the same boat. Good luck to you guys!

I'm in the same boat as you. My K-1 expires June 15th.

I'm excited because I went to USPS today and mailed out my forms, but I am anxious because I do not know what this new order will mean for us going through AOS

For now I'm going to enjoy this little win, because who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Good luck!

Congrats, I hope you'll hear good news soon. I'm anxious about this order too but I'll still prepare and mail my forms ASAP. Hope it won't gonna include us. Good luck us all!

A letter from a joint sponsor is no guarantee to USCIS that a sponsor can or will cover your medical bills. Anyone can write a letter and it isn't proof that a sponsor has the means to pay medical bills. If you get ill ,say with corona, and you end up in the ICU. your medical bills will literally be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. I don't know of anyone who has a few hundred thousand dollars, or even more, just laying around.

For example in 2012 I had emergency surgery for a perforated colon and spent 11 days in the hospital in a regular semi-private room(2 people per room). My medical bill was $103,000 and I wasn't in intensive care and this was 8 years ago.

I understand the risks of not having health insurance. It's a choice I made for the next few months until I get my EAD knowing the consequences. As for USCIS instructions I had to prove how I will support for any unforeseen bills if I don't plan on getting a health insurance and for that I submitted a letter signed by joint sponsor and his property and savings docs. He is way over poverty line and has lots of assets. I'll keep my status posted if I get any RFE for this.

Because of everything that is going on, I decided not to wait until my husband's 2019 taxes were finalised to submit our application. I ended up submitting his 2018-2016 transcripts and hope that shows the IO that he is consistent with his income. I also chose to include his 2019 W-2 because we had that from his employer.

I hope all works out for you. Good luck to you too.

I completely understand where you are coming from. I was hesitant to get health insurance too, because, like you I am unable to work and pay for my own. Chances are you will be fine if you are in good health. You could also always go to your local urgent care and see if they offer any sort of memberships. It's definitely no replacement for health insurance, but it's something. I know my local urgent care offers yearly membership for like $165 and all appointments then become half the price. Again, it's no replacement but ccould be helpful. Many of us are new to life in the US, so I think it's important we all look out for each other.

I submitted 12 month history of my Australian bank account. When I converted it, I just looked up the current exchange rate from AUD to USD and explained how I did the conversion. For example.... say I had $50,000 (I wish haha) I wrote this in the additional comments section on the last page of the form:

"My balance in my Australian savings account is $50,000. This is equivalent to approximately $30,500 USD. At the time of fling this form the exchange rate from AUD to USD was 0.61."

For insurance.. I got a plan with Cigna Global. They are an international health insurance provider.
