International flights will stay about the same as they are now. A handful will slowly come back online,

I just spoke with Philippine Airlines, I have 2 tickets booked out of LAX to Cebu on May 26th, They're resuming flights to and from LA beginning May 1st, but not in New York, so you're correct in saying they will slowly come back online, depending if the hot spots have substantially cooled off as they are in California.

Scheduled to go back online,  Duterte needs to reopen the skies first.

YMMV

Please,  its been extended twice already.   Plus, I would fully expect some sort of mandatory quarantine period for all arriving passengers at least initially

YMMV

Planes are still flying, Airports are open, just limited. Now in some places down to 5% Passenger traffic, but Air Freight is a big chunk of traffic.

This virus will be here until a vaccination is found.  If we open up to early it will reignite,  but it will be here every year at some level

About 85% of flying stock is grounded and in some sort of short term storage program.  It takes quite a few maintenance man hours to get each aircraft back into daily service.   It will take time and lots if it to get airplanes back in the air.

YMMV

It really depends if the Philippines and cities they allow come down on their curve, if not, then I expect it will be extended, but I'm a optimistic guy, I think it's quite possible the curve drops and flights will resume May 1st as they announced.

As for a mandatory quarantine, I agree it makes sense they would implement one, however if you consider the # of international flights their allowing, I don't see how you can police over 2500 arriving passengers per day.

Just understanding Duterte, he will not let this thing reignite.   If they can't control the incoming passengers into quarantine, guess what, they won't allow them in.

Also, airlines cannot restart on a moments notice.  100% of PAL flying stock and 85% of the worldwide flying stock is grounded and will take a monumental effort to get them operationally ready again.   I suspect domestic restart will be first, then after some time, international.

YMMV

This whole thing is an absolute nightmare. I moved to the CA in October 2019, got married in court in November and we had a big wedding with my family coming from France planned for April 5th. Of course it was cancelled and we postponed it to October 11th 2020. I am so afraid that it won’t happen this time either. I also have two elderly grandparents and one of them just had a stroke today. I am still going through the AOS process so no GC and no working permit yet. I am terrified of being stuck here and not being to go see my family. I am considering booking a flight for July or August before the prices get crazy and hoping I will get my AP, but I’m not sure if Europe borders will be reopened by then....

I would much rather be in your situation than mine Adeline! :)

Anyway. I am hoping flights open sooner. Australia is starting to say that they won't open international borders until 2021 and I find that just upsetting. Would love to be considered essential travel.. But I am still waiting for my interview anyway.
