was your interview in English?

Well, we're getting close to interview time. We were thinking to have his interview in English because except for some random words in arabic, it is the language we communicate in. The Idea being it would somehow look better to them and increase chances of a positive outcome.

What languages did everyone else interview in? And how proficient would you say your SO is in that language? I think mine is fine, just needs more vocabulary and practice, the skills are there. I think they should be able to understand him fine.

But there is always some chance depending on what they ask him that they could misunderstand his answer and make assumptions and then deny. I think he is capable of having the interview in english, but if he did it in arabic the chances of a misunderstanding are much less.

Do you think using arabic instead would be some sort of reddish flag to them?

BT

If I cause offense it is not on purpose, think about that before you take offense. If you feel offended, consider that maybe I'm not talking about you and maybe I accidentally stumbled onto a sore area and do not know. Thank you.

When my SO approached the CO when they called him up for his interview, she spoke to him in French. I think it was french. Anyway, he replied in English and did his interview in English. He felt that was better bc English is what we both speak. There was one question that was a little confusing for him, but I think it was more nerves than anything else. My advice to him was if he didn't understand, was to ask them to rephrase the question. Like you, sometimes it is a vocabulary issue. I would say he is fluent, but there are some words that he doesn't know and when I rephrase it, he understands. If he is proficient in English, I would say have the interview in English if that is the language you use to communicate. Is the interview this week or next week?

My husband interviewed in Jordan. They spoke Arabic at first. Asked him if he knew English and was comfortable with continuining the interview in English. Moh said yes and so it was conducted in English. The lady that interviewed him didn't know Arabic very well, so they joked about that!

my advice for you is use english cuz it shows them you don't have problems comunicating.

I know a guy was denied because he couldn't speak english good and asked them to do the interveiw in arabic even his case was CR1 wich is kinda easier than K1.the consular told him that they can't have a valid relationship without comunication.

good luck .

my fiance will do his interview in french because he is fluent in arabic and french, but beg/intermediate in english. i don't want to risk him misunderstanding a question when he can do it in french and we have proof we both speak french. if you don't have proof you can speak either french or arabic, i'd go for english too. and if he's fluent..then do it FOR SURE. :)

good luck!

The CO started talking to Idir in French and he said he would like to do the interview in English but if he did not understand something he would ask for clarification in French which he did do for one question. She reasked the question in French and he answered in English. Then came the question How do you communicate? He said in English with a little French, spanish and Arabic. She was satisfied.

I highly recommend using the language you communicate in, but do not let a misunderstanding occure because of limited English skills. sometimes it is just a matter of accent and vocabulary that canbe easily cleared up by asking for clarification in the language of the beneficiary.

The CO that handled my husband's case (he didn't have an interview.... unless you count asking where we lived in Paris an interview  ) spoke to him in french and my husband was so nervous that he answered him in english. We're both fluent in english and french so i guess it didn't really matter.
