Rejection Notice due to extra remittance of payment

Hi!

my husband & I filed concurrently (I-130+I-130A, I-465, I-131, I765, I-864) on 02/22/2020 to the Chicago Lockbox and haven't heard anything on the case.

Today, I received a letter with no receipt # or case type information stating:

"Recently, you submitted an application for immigration benefits. That form was submitted with an extra remittance that is not required to process your application. Your payment is being returned to you with this notice. No additional action by you is required at this time."

Does this mean the whole package is rejected and will be sent back to us? Wouldn't the letter have been addressed to my husband since he is the petitioner?

I would hope that we just don't have to pay for the I-131 & I-765 instead of the whole package being sent back...

We put a Credit Card Authorization with every form (We have 5 of them).

I just found out that we don't have to pay for the I-131 & I-765 if we file the I-130 & I-465.

Now we are confused since we didn't receive the packet back with the rejection notice.

You just found out?  You only have one payment to authorize,  how did you determine it was 5?

Also,  you would greatly benefit by visiting the AOS forum, an entire forum specific to the process you are in

We put the Credit Card Authorization with each form, meaning for the I-130+I-130A, I-465, I-131, I765 and I-864 = 5.

I think they only rejected the Payment Authorization for the I-131 & I-765 since we didn't receive our package back.

There is no fee for the I-864 or for the I-765 and I-131 when filed with the the I-485.    Did you read the instructions?

Its obvious you didn't look up the fee schedule in the form instructions.   The only payment required is for the i485 for $1225 and $535 for the i130.None of the others have a fee.

We did and even met with a Lawyer, but I guess we got that wrong. Just trying to figure out now if they only rejected the payments for those forms and kept the one's for the I-130 & I-465.

Check with the credit card company and see what was charged.  They most likely shredded the other authorization forms

We don't see anything on our bank statements yet, it's so confusing.

They stated that they destroyed the Credit Card Authorization, so I'm guessing they still kept the package.

Lucky for you - they could have rejected all of it.

From a simple reading of the wording of the rejection, they just ignored the excess payment and processing continues normally.

Just another random guy from the internet with an opinion, although usually backed by data!

^^^ This

I'm not sure why the other VJ members feel the need to hammer onto OP for making a mistake and just add to the panic? If the goal is for OP to hang out on the forum and find information here, then perhaps they should realise how unwelcoming they currently are.

Anyways, as @Ray.Bonaquist said; it seems like they still accepted your packet OP and that they're still going to process it, but they wanted to let you know that you 'overpaid' and that they're returning this 'payment'. Since the default for of payment is by cheque, this language would've applied to a returned cheque, in this case however you opted for CC so they just shredded the excess forms. They just didn't bother customising the language in the letter to your situation.

I'd suggest keeping an eye out for you mail, email and text (assuming you've filed a G-1145 with it), you should receive confirmation within a day or 10 under normal circumstances. Also keep an eye out on your transactions. Payment = acceptance of packet.

No additional action by you is required at this time.

Instructions were pretty clear, no need for you to do anything as they stated, your case will proceed.  Be prepared for longer than normal processing times given the current situation and backlog.  Good luck!
