This article basically states that I am an exception to the law.. I think that @Cryssiekins  maybe your husband wasn't able to enter because he was already with you? so it's not like he has to enter Canada to reunite with his immediate family

I don't know what to do... LOL

I know it says that, and that’s why we figured we’d be okay.

I mean, if I was you, even after reading my story, I’d still try because it’s horrible to be separated on a regular day, but during this - that’s a new level of cruel.

If you’re not concerned about the time/travel, then go for it.  Maybe you’ll get someone nicer from CBSA :)

I hope you can be reunited soon ❤️

Just remember that you will have to quarantine yourself for 14 days - not in the same room as your husband.  Not sure if you are planning to cross into Quebec, or Ontario, but provinces are handling it a little differently.  Also, many travel insurances are not covering claims related to COVID-19 anymore, so make sure yours do.    Best of luck.

If you decide to go to Canada, bring marriage certificate and a printout of the page I linked. And make sure that your husband is available to pick up the phone.

This is a new situation and it’s very possible that all border agents are not well updated on the rules or may have even misunderstood them. There is no guarantee to enter, of course, but the rules seems pretty clear, at least on the Canadian side, where the government has given clear guidance about exemptions. You make the decision your self if you think it’s worth a try, or course.

Best of luck!

Let me clarify that I live in New York and will not be crossing any other state just cross the border

You can’t even visit Texas without quarantining yourself for two weeks.

Stay home!  Like the rest of us have to.

Do you understand that if the OP crosses the border, they have to quarantine themselves ALONE for 14 days?

The OP can try, but chances are they'll be told to go home.  While being away from family is very hard right now, we can do it to flatten the curve.

Me? That's not my issue, I'm not travelling. It's up to the OP to follow all applicable laws and regulations. I'm just answering the question about entry to the country, which was what the OP asked about.

Personally, I think you should follow the state orders (shelter at home, in case of New York state - that's what I'm going). However, if you are legally able to visit your husband in Canada, are able to do so in a way that is safe and don't risk spreading the virus, and without breaking any laws or regulations, then I think it's acceptable to visit. If you drive a car, alone, straight from your home to your husbands home, and follow all regulations about quarantine - then visit could be an option. Personally, I may have waited, but that's easy to say when I don't have to be away from my family.

It's easy for me to say and I am away from my family.  I have my husband but my daughter lives in Canada.  My mom and my step-dad, my sister and her family, my brother and his family,  my aunts, uncles and cousins... They're not even visiting with each other.

Neither are we.  Non-essential movement needs to stop.

I am fortunate in that all my travel is essential.

A representative from CBSA Twitter account said a spouse is only exempted if they are a resident. My USC husband wouldn't be allowed to come into Canada. I believe the Canadian border guards are being much stricter than the US side, as we have far less infected.

It's really difficult being long distance already, but being apart in the middle of a global crisis and not knowing when you'll see each other again is so stressful. I keep telling myself though, that as long as I know he's staying safe and healthy, I'll wait however long it takes.

And this was to go to Canada, just wanted to be certain.

Thanks for the update. It will definitely let people know where this stands now.

It sucks to be away from loved ones but patience and staying safe will pay off in the end.

Canada has done, especially on the west coast, a great job of flattening their curve.
