That’s true. It’s the date when you can inquire about your case and they have to give your an actual answer not a generic reply. The issue with that is with Atlanta I might she stuck there for 3 years and I cannot do anything since I will still technically be within the processing time.

 

It does not mean that it will take necessary 3 years—it could take less time... or longer.

I just ran a search on the VJ timelines for Atlanta N-400 filers, looks like some people who filed post-Covid got biometrics and I even see a couple people who got interviews. So at least you know they're obviously working on something.

 

I agree that it's very infuriating to see people who filed after we did get interviews, while we're still waiting. I know everyone's case is different and I suspect the nationality of the applicant probably also affects processing time, possibly also the profession of the applicant (I feel it could be something very similar to AP, because it's citizenship and I'm sure they're concerned about security.) There has to be some rhyme or reason as to why some people fly right through but others stagnate. If it really is just random that just makes me angrier, haha.

Hello!

 

I don't normally post anything but I check this thread regularly. I filed April 9th and got a biometric reuse notice on Dec 10th. I also have a pending I-751 from June 2019 that has also had no movement. I wouldn't care so much about the delays but I want to petition my mom to move here and I can't do that until I am naturalized....really hoping this interview is scheduled soon!

Welcome! Yes, it's very frustrating.....some of us still haven't even received a biometrics notice or appointment yet. What's your local office?

 

The pending I-751 might actually help your case, I've heard sometimes they will prioritize it over those who are just waiting on the N-400. But no guarantees of course. 😕

I am at the Philadelphia field office. That's interesting...well I hope so! I had to go to the office in december for an infopass appointment to get an extension on my green card extension (which I find ridiculous btw) and there was hardly anyone there....it doesn't seem too promising that they are moving cases very fast with how empty that office was 😕 I am guessing it will be at least another few months for me before I hear anything but we shall see...

Keep hanging in there. By GC extension do you mean I-551 stamp? I'm surprized you were able to go in at all given covid. Did you schedule the infopass via phone?

If you haven't yet received a biometrics appointment you can try to contact them via your online account. I did that in October asking to get an appointment and got the generic reply back basically just telling me I was in line to be scheduled.

 

Then I contacted them again in December and basically said "Still no biometrics. Who do I contact about this, is it the congressman or the ombudsman?". And two weeks later I got an appointment. I bet mentioning the ombudsman got things moving a little. 

 

I had my appointment yesterday, I was talking to a couple of people in line and they were scheduled for their first biometrics back in March 2020, which were cancelled. They didn't get new appointments until now, almost a year later. So my gut feeling is that I, as a May filer, probably wouldn't have gotten an appointment this early if it wasn't for nagging them. Especially considering the people in line were January and February filers.

Thanks, I am going to contact them tomorrow via phone. So far I've submitted a non-receipt inquiry back in July because I never got confirmation that it had been transferred to the new field office after the move, but all I got was a generic response back in October. This week, I contacted them via the myuscis inbox asking why I haven't received biometrics yet, so far no response there. When you contacted them, was it via the inbox or did you call?

Via inbox. I never call anymore, those people just make me infuriated. 🤣

 

I feel like bringing up congressman and ombudsman did the trick. It could be all random of course, but I do believe they don't want the ombudsman involved.

I don't blame you, lol. How long did it take for them to reply via the inbox?

The first time it took 8 days, fairly quick probably because they just copied and pasted a generic response. 

 

The second time it took ~2,5 - 3 weeks (Dec 14 to Jan 5). My guess is that they put in a request to my field office to scheduled me for an appointment, and that obviously took a little while, and then they only responded to me the same minute my status updated to "biometrics was scheduled". "We created and mailed you an ASC appointment notice".

Yanisa's visa journey is over.

 

We flew to HNL this morning for her interview, scheduled for 9:45AM. She said it was very easy, IO was very nice, apparently somebody from the  4th floor that doesn't normally do naturalization interviews on the 5th floor came and got her, asked a few questions about me, my divorce, my age, what I do (retired), what did I do before I was retired, did not ask to see any of the documents other than ID and green card, oral question and written answer was about Lincoln, then she waited a while in a room, and took the oath ceremony with a batch of 9 other people from Maui at 11AM. It would have been at 10am except the IOs computer went down and she had to wait for things to get settled.

 

Regarding biometrics, they ended up sending us a reuse letter which we never got, but we found it in Yanisa's USCIS documents for the case when I was notified that the interview was scheduled. I'm glad they reused them because we have to hop over to HNL for everything and with covid, there's pre-travel test requirements ($$$) to avoid quarantine when you get back to Maui. I hope you may get a reuse letter also, maybe that happens closer to whenever your office starts working on a batch of n-400s?

 

I remember all the waiting we did in the previous phases for the K1, the AOS (I remember that Scandi was one of the earliest ones in our filing group to get approved for their AOS), and then the 10 year green card. It's frustrating seeing others make it through when you don't see any progress. But maybe it's also encouraging to see that USCIS is making some progress on n-400s?

Honestly, it all feels so incredibly random. Back when I started ROC, we filed around the same time as @Lucky Cat and my husband's ROC ended up getting in approved/processed all in a matter of about 5 months, whereas I believe he is still waiting for an interview! (They require interviews for people who entered on CR-1's now). I believe the local office is a big part of processing times, but even then it seems to vary wildly. I'm lucky because our CR-1 was DCF, so incredibly fast, and our ROC was also very fast, so I guess the fact that the N-400 is taking so long is just karma and the wait finally catching up to us, haha.
