You can try by calling the ASC. Sometimes they do allow it.

Because of COVID they are not allowing walk-ins under any circumstances. You can try calling prior and see if they reschedule it, bit they won't let you in the building if you don't have an appointment letter for that day.

There is no clear criteria. I've read people getting a reuse letter with biometrics done 5 years ago. I had biometrics done 3 years ago and got an appointment for taking them again.

I have done my biometrics within a year (last dec for my I-751). it’s not even one year but they still sent it again to do for dec 2020. I think it’s up to the agent , who picks the file, if he don’t know the latest communication shared to USCIS employees/wants to just buy the time , he will send the biometrics appointment, if employee is proactive he sign off to have old biometrics reused.

I don't think they were reusing biometrics back in 2020. They started reusing them in the summer with the COVID backlogs.

Yes they only started doing it after Covid, but that’s what I feel ,it’s mostly the agent who picks up the file, is determining for whom he can reuse and for whom to send new biometrics request, with no reasoning whatsoever.

Yes, there's no clear criteria. It's all subjective, depending on what they read on your file. 

 

I, for example, declared a traffic ticket, so I answered "yes" to the question: "have you ever received a citation"? A traffic ticket is not a crime, but you do receive a citation, so they might only check the yes or no answers. I'm pretty sure that's the reason they didn't reuse mine.

I got the impression that it is subjective too. With the rate my local office is going, it would be absurd for them not to reuse as they've only just begun scheduling interviews for December 2019 filers here.

Wow, that's crazy. I hope my office is faster than than. I have the biometrics appointment this coming Thursday.
