My girlfriend( us citizen) wants to marry me now. I got 2 month left on my H2B visa. My problem is,that even when we marry now and send all the papers out im not allowed to work until my status has been adjusted. In that situation now im asuming that the will need at least 6 month till i have my work permit right?

From what I am hearing 6 months for an EAD is appropriate, but it may be longer with all this virus stuff going around.

Difficult say what timelines will be in the current situation.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

What I would do in this situation is request expediting the EAD based on having a current job (instead of a job offer), and loss of benefits/health insurance if employment is terminated.   Although, I don't know how effective this will be (can anyone else give their input on this idea?)

Do they still require biometrics for the EAD when its adjustment of status? They are not doing biometrics appointments ATM.

They do, H2B is a temporary/seasonal visa as well.

Do you have any biometrics on file from a previous application?

YMMV

Are you the real Frank Zander? 😆

Yes, EAD takes 4-6 months under normal conditions. With the virus and many offices closing it will be even longer. You could try to expedite it with a job offer. If you feel more comfortable going back home and apply for CR1, you're free to do that too. You can marry here and go back. That's what I did. Good luck whatever you decide.
