NVC certified translations

Getting all the paperwork ready for submitting to NVC. I’m wondering if I myself can do the certified translations of documents, ie. marriage certificate, birth certificate, police report? Is there something different about the translation that’s submitted to NVC vs. USCIS? I myself did the translation for the birth certificate to USCIS and it was accepted no issues. Or does this have to be done by a certified translator? Please let me know if you did translations yourself or someone you know, or if you hired it out to a professional? I am finding the cost of $50 per page online, which would be a total of $150 to translate the docs I need.

Are your documents in a different language than the country where your interview will take place?

Include a certified translation of your document with your original (i.e. foreign language) document in a single file. Please note that a translation is not required for documents in the language of the country where your visa interview will take place.

Yes, the documents are in Spanish, so I’ll need them translated to English. Just wondering if this can be done my myself (I am the wife of the petitioner), or does it need to be done by a certified translator?

You can translate them yourself for uscis. You must include a copy of the original, your translation, and a signed statement with your name, a sentence saying you are fluent in the language, and your signature.

The assertion that you don’t need to translate documents for embassy interviews is wrong. It varies by embassy.
