The mayor of coronavirus-plagued New Orleans took a shot at Trump, saying the city would have canceled Mardi Gras if the federal government had taken the outbreak seriously

Do you have to have an IQ less than 70 to get elected Mayor of NO? Now she is trying to blame Trump for her decision to have Mardi Gras.

Reminds me of another idiot that would not evecuate and blamed Bush.

When Restaurants, Etc closed in my town it was because the Mayor ordered it

Cuomo has been playing the same fiddle for weeks so not surprised at all.

Actually I saw in the California press that they are going the same way.

The mayor rolled the dice on economics over health and New Orleans lost. Many other politicians are going to have to consider that at some point. They have to own the decision.

Well you can't fix stupid. But it doesn't seem how hard a mayor or governor pushes to try and stop party behavior and gatherings, they're still goofing off around these parts and proud of it. Every leader has to make a decision to choose health over economics, unfortunately most have made it too late.

These mayors have no idea what they're doing so naturally utilize the hysterical irrationality of their political demographic to deflect from personal responsibility. Rational people know the President and federal government are extremely limited, both financially (which means logistically), and in sovereignty, when it comes to this matter. The way the Republic is set up means the country is designed to facilitate a bottom-up approach, not a top-down. Local leaders have a better idea how to serve their people, and have better distribution channels, not national politicians and bureaucrats. The founding fathers' wisdom is ever more apparent as the population has grown.

Circumstances like this is just one of many pieces of proof that the federal government needs to be small and limited. A larger and larger federal government is increasingly wasteful and increasingly worse at being representative.

Actually, there's been quite a bit in the news here that Newsom and Trump are working well together at the moment. You don't hear Trump calling out Newsom in the way he's calling out Cuomo and Grantham and Inslee, and that's because they have started to build a relationship together in this very strange time.

And when you start talking about something the size of Mardi Gras, I am sure she got a lot of external pressure from some folks with deep pockets

Just like here we are still operating like nothing happened, only 1 car dealer in the state shut down as far as I have heard. The Car lobby is very strong in GA. I am sure it would get declared essential if it comes down to it.

Car dealers here doing the same thing, though trying to get away with it by ''enter by appointment only''. They clearly are not on the governor's list of approved essential services.

and I am sure if you show up with no appointment you will have 5 people trying to help you. I had an RN for a customer Sat night. I could not help but wonder the whole time

Also having an appt does not change the fact that you are in close contact with them.

I just came back from essential Supermarket trip, so how do you do the 6ft when the aisle is less than that?

Anyway I can confirm that the 4 Pot Shops I passed were all open and doing business. I did not go past any Car Dealers so am unable to comment.

I've been doing grocery pickup. They load everything in the back while I just sit and wait. Last week I got out to help, but they changed policy now they just want customers to stay in the car.

It wasn’t Mardi Gras that caused the big surge in New Orleans.  It was the huge St Paddy’s day parades in mid-March that occurred AFTER even NYC cancelled St Paddy events.  A week after that?  New Orleans went exponential.

Add NYC to my cimments.  No parade?  No problem!

From mid march.  Trump’s fault or just stupid irresponsible behavior that should be shouldered by those practicing it?

”We partied but now we need ventilators and it’s Trump’s fault we don’t have enough”

We were working from home by St Paddy’s day.
