Hello everyone.

I know I am not the only one who's struggling in this situation. I hope you all stay safe.

So, I would like to ask someone who's knowable about GC holder and benefits.

 

I moved here with K1 visa and got GC a few month ago. 

Recently, my husband was laid-off due to this pandemic situation, and I don't have a job either. 

My husband filed for unemployment benefits already, but I am concerned about our situation.

 

My questions are 

- Can he get food stamp or he can't, because I'm a GC holder based on a spouse visa?

- I know that I am not eligible for medicare, but is there any other insurance that I can get for people who don't have income?

 

I'm just scared and don't know what happens if I get sick right now... 

I was just starting to get interviews before this pandemic happened.. 

I've been looking for a job every single day..

Medicare is for the disabled and elderly; you meant Medicaid. You are correct you don’t qualify for that. 
 

Some states have opened up a special enrollment period for people to sign up for insurance ; you don’t have your state listed so I can’t help further with that. 
 

have you tried applying at grocery stores, Amazon, fed ex, ups, Walmart, and wholesale distributor? In my area they are hiring like crazy.

What insurance did you have prior to this event?

 

No matter what insurance you find, you're going to have to pay for it. And understandably money is going to be tight right now. Depending on what state you are in, some have reopened open enrollment on the marketplace because of the pandemic - you'd both be eligible for this. But still, this will not be free. Ideally what you both need is a job. Ironically there are places hiring right now. One odd feature of pandemics is the effect on the economy - where one area of business closes another opens.

Not only that, but loss of employment is a QLE for a SPE.
