Horowitz: WHEN did coronavirus begin in the US? And why it matters

The entire political focus of yesterday’s news cycle was the legislative imbroglio between Republicans and Democrats over the coronavirus rescue package. Republicans believe we should presuppose and even continue encouraging an indefinite shutdown while spending trillions to treat it. Democrats believe the same thing and also want to add all their other extraneous progressive policies too. But nobody is asking: Do we really need to intensify the shutdown before we understand the data and projections of the actual virus itself?

If at first you don't succeed, then sky diving is not for you.

Someone stole my dictionary. Now I am at a loss for words.

If Apple made a car, would it have windows?

Ban shredded cheese. Make America Grate Again .

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.  Deport him and you never have to feed him again.

I started out with nothing, and I still have most of it.

I went bald but I kept my comb.  I just couldn't part with it.

My name is not Richard Edward but my friends still call me DickEd

If your pet has a bladder infection, urine trouble.

"Watch out where the huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow."

I fired myself from cleaning the house. I didn't like my attitude and I got caught drinking on the job.

My kid has A.D.D... and a couple of F's

Carrots improve your vision.  Alcohol doubles it.

A dung beetle walks into a bar and asks " Is this stool taken?"

Breaking news.  They're not making yardsticks any longer.

Hemorrhoids?  Shouldn't they be called Assteroids?

If you suck at playing the trumpet, that may be why.

The idea of prolonging some government induced shutdown of an entire economy for an illness that's slightly worse than the flu causes chaos the government can't undo regardless of how much money it sends one way or another.

If it was to be taken seriously, it would've been taken seriously by countries months ago. Right now its just PR and appeasing scared irrational people. There's little logic to what's going on. My pregnant wife is forced to stay home on self isolation for an illness she may not even have, she can't get tested for at drive thru testing centers (the only place the government will allow it here, and you have to be approved to go there), unless she has life threatening symptoms she may not even be able to drive while having. This forced isolation caused her job to lay her off temporarily, but (presuming its no longer than a month or so) with enough time that she may not even make her mat leave hours for a full maternity leave.

Precisely why panicked approaches and appeasing hysteria means bad choices, always. It's also why partisan, divided societies are toxic and self destructive, on top of that.

Look,

This is not the flu. Full stop.

Time is not your friend. You cannot wait until you have a Spain or Italy on your hands. The kinetics of NYC cannot be repeated across all American cities.

As far as the economic impact, making your population healthy is the best economic stimulus in the long run.

It's not a binary choice, and if you look closely you will see several rural communities wracked to deal with this.

Nope, not a binary choice, but high density living is certainly worse in a situation like this.
