Just got an email notification that my estimated approval date according to visa journey is November 21st. Not really sure what to make of this. Are the estimated approval dates on visa journey usually pretty accurate considering they aren't the official estimates coming directly from the USCIS, or are they pretty much irrelevant?

Take the emails with a grain of salt.  I received an email two weeks ago that predicted November 21.  Today’s email predicts December 5.  Therefore, with two passing weeks, I did not get any closer to the finish line.  If you keep an eye on the immigration timelines tab, you will see that the dates being processed over the last three weeks have not progressed any further through March.  I believe the algorithm that this site uses is accurate, but USCIS is making little progress and the backlog is growing.

I check the no2 date every now and again and it went from March 20 to March to 18 🙁. I would be lucky if I hear something in November right now .

Since USCIS is adjudicating those who applied in March, April is not far behind. You may see November/December period but that's predicated on how fast your background checks are returned which no one with any certainty can say. Good luck and stay engaged.

There is a conversation in the March thread that you may find of interest. Look from this link below. The chart is for March, but it gives you an idea. He uses an app to get is data from. I'll post the app links below.

Note: the USCIS Case Tracker app lets you set a range of WAC# before and after yours to see the status of those cases. Very slick tool to ascertain where you are in the processing timeline of USCIS compared to others.

The estimates you get from VJ are predicated on the community at large either have a timeline or keeping up with their timeline. So, it's not always accurate. It can be another tool in your toolbox as it gives a little idea what others are experiencing.

Hello.

We filed our case and received Noa1 june 5th 2019.  We received transfer notice Oct 21st 2019.  In total it has been over 500 days now...or 16.5 months.

All I can tell you is do not think about the wait time.  Try and keep occupied with work or hobbies.

Oh my, are you two separated like us?  500 days and no NOA2?  I would go crazy.. Good luck..

So if my wait goes past the receipt date and I have to call and inquire, what exactly happens once I inquire? Do they speed up my case or do they just give me a more specific estimate on when I should expect an approval?

They'll give you an estimate but don't expect it to stick. This is an ebb and flow process.

Can I share somethings with you that I learned long ago about this process?

    • "the man with the gold makes the rules"
    • it will take as long as it will take
    • no one with any certainty can tell you when some process will be completed
    • Your sense of urgency will never be equaled to what USCIS, NVC or your embassy demonstrates
    • Your journey is not going to mirror someone else's experience - yours and theirs are not the same
    • They only promised you a YES or NO answer. Never an exact time that their decision would be completed
    • Lowering your expectations will make you a much more relaxed individual

Good luck on your journey

You know, I've seen you post this many times before but I can' help but think that if USCIS is giving us an estimate based on whatever their criteria is then they should be held accountable to that or else they should adjust their estimates appropriately. If within the halls of this agency their bosses or the employees aren't holding themselves accountable to what they have communicated then we the customers (citizens of this nation) do have the right to demand that deliver upon the expectations they have set for us/themselves.

Nothing will change if we accept the status quo. As you have put it, they have the gold but it is our gold that they have and without us they have none. I'm not saying let's start a revolution but if people don't speak up about their expectations not being met which are largely set by what USCIS provides then USCIS should just stop setting misguided expectations.

My recommendation as a better message is for people to reach out to their local representatives not about the status of their individual cases, but that they reach out to them about the inaccurate expectations that are being set. While USCIS may not ever be able to give us exact dates, they should be able to give use some kinds of guidelines similar to what is provided by VJ because of all organizations they have the most accurate data to do so. Make you elected officials work for "us" not just "you". The constitution starts off with "we the people" not "me the individual".

If a contractor you hired to do work on your house was off on their estimates like USCIS is, I'm pretty sure you would raise a stink about it. But what do I know, I'm just a paying customer hoping that my government can/will improve in some way.

I'll now yield the soapbox to someone else as I've had a hard day and a few hard beverages...

I'm well versed in 50 cent words, though what I exhort is that the enfranchised employ those that they have empowered, benefit society as a whole, not just their own self-interests. United we stand and all that jazz.
