Hi all,

I am trying to prepare myself as much as possible and give the current situation this will prove difficult. I need a police check clearance for a year I lived in Dubai from Oct 2012-July 2013.

Am I right In thinking I need to get my finger prints done at a police station and sending my finger prints to the ministry of defence. Once I have done that I will be able to get my certificate from the UAE embassy. It is not very clear and when I have spoken to people at the embassy they haven’t been helpful. This was prior to the global pandemic.

does anyone have any advice. I am a teacher and I always have an up to date DBS (Uk criminal check)

Any advice would be appreciated as I know I have to bring it to my interview as I lived there longer than 6 months.

You probably don't need it, in most cases it will be waived as its difficult to obtain from UAE if you are non resident.

I did manage to do it, process was:

1) Finger prints (at New Scotland Yard!)
2) Take these up to UK foreign office at milton keynes for a stamp

3) Take these to UAE embassy in London for their stamp.

4) I sent them to an Arabic speaking friend in UAE who took them to a government office there for another stamp (think it was foreign ministry, who verify the UAE embassy stamp from UK)

5) He then took them to Dubai Police station.

Its a complicated process with the usual UAE problems of their officials not knowing the rules, or putting up silly obstacles (I had to keep writing my friend letters to say I was happy for him to act on my behalf, etc)

So it can be done, but its complicated and that's why the USCIS will probably waive the requirement as they are recommended to do by their own guidance. The good thing is that once you have the certificate, its valid indefinitely for USCIS, assuming you don't return to the UAE (and therefore could not commit any crimes there)

Hi,  do you still have your UAE id?

I used to live in dubai also and got a certificate online after I left the country. You can obtain either police clearance certificate or criminal clearance certificate or good conduct certificate. I got a criminal clearance certificate through ‘moi uae application’. I didn’t have to go fingerprint as I still had a UAE Id with me. (You need id number when you apply it)  And then I went to UAE embassy in my home country to get a stamp on it. That’s it. :)

and don’t forget these certificates are only valid 3months. I already issued twice but I might need to do again because of these corona things. ☹️ Good luck

You must be living in the UAE to receive a police clearance. So if none is needed per the link given above, then none will be required at the embassy. CO's know which country's you can get a PC from and those you can't. You may want to make a screen shot and print that part out and bring to your interview in the event you run into some push back you'll have the official word form DOS.

LIsten to Greenbaum.   Police clearance from UAE is waived by the embassy because you must be in the country to apply and receive.

Procedure for Obtaining: Police certificates may be obtained by any person, regardless of nationality, by personally appearing at the Central Police Headquarters located in the emirate of residence or former residence.

Police Clearance Reciprocity (foreign police clearance)

Sorry for the delay I am still waiting on my k1 visa interview. Can you believe it ?
I don’t have me emirates I’d number to hand. I looked in my old passport and just my visa is in there but appears the idea isn’t in there. Any advice on next steps? I’m sure it’ll be a headache to call there
