Parent moved to US recently.  Entered March 2, has temporary I-551 stamp.

Still no social security card in hand.  All fees were paid during the NVC process.  Is there anything we missed?

Normally I’d say visit SS office then, but you can’t at the moment ...I don’t think there’s anything you can do but wait till they reopen to the public, and hope it arrives in the meanwhile.

Would calling help, or are they basically unable to do anything via phone?

If you call, the SSA customer service agent needs the SSN number before they can assist you .  Been there done that

YMMV

I don’t think they can verify identity over the phone - she’d show her passport in person at a SS office - and they won’t go giving out SSNs to people they can’t identify over the phone.

If you opted in for social security issuance upon arrival via DS-260, your card would’ve been applied for the day of or the day following your entry.

it can take up to 3 weeks to receive your SSN card, and considering the viral situation, it can definitely take longer. The SSA site mentions if you don’t receive your number within 3 weeks, you can call them and inquire about it.
