Virology is a sub field of microbiology, which was my first degree. I worked in virology research for 4 years until I decided I would like to have a normal life with an income like every one else. From talking to MD's, I do not think they get a whole lot of specialized virology in their training unless they go into infectious diseases or pathology. That's is not a knock, they just don't have time to get into the details.

However you can take anyone's word you wish. I'm just stating my own opinion. Ebola will always be a nightmare. A year from now, people will hardly care about Covid-19.

It took you a few extra days, but you're finally coming around.  I'm glad to read these words.  Thanks for all you have done to help others during this medical emergency.  Make it two beers on me...

No.  covid-19 isn't all that dangerous.  Please turn off your TV or computer, and quit watching the news.  Seriously.  I'm not trying to make light of your fears, but I honestly feel they are induced by outside influences, not by what is actually happening around us.

No one wants to die.  But we all will, no matter what we do.  The idea that we MIGHT die before old age overtakes us is a great tool in manipulating people.  As we see right now.  Just over 21,000 people have died from covid-19.  And those numbers are over-stated, because ANYONE who dies with a positive covid-19 test is considered killed by the virus.  Even if they have severe underlying conditions.  This means people with certain-death cancer aren't counted as cancer deaths, but covid-19 deaths.  We have no way of knowing what the ACTUAL covid-19 deaths are, and likely never will.  But just like every other disease we as humans face, we WILL beat it.  We have amazingly smart people all over the world working on it feverishly, and they WILL find either a vaccine or a cure, maybe both.  Or it will mutate it's way out of existence.  Or we will develop herd immunity.

Ask yourself... when was the last time any illness removed every human from the planet?

I'm not afraid for myself, and not even for my parents because they're great at staying home. But I see this disease for what it is - a deadly outbreak that is going to cost lives even with the best precautions. Since we're not taking the best precautions, it's going to be worse.

I'm not coming around on anything. Covid-19 is a risk right now, and will continue to be for the next few months. If we don't take the right approach, many more people will die needlessly than if we manage it correctly.

It won't be the same risk once everyone has been exposed. I have said that from the beginning.
