Hello everyone! I'm gonna file for Adjustment on Status (from a K-1 visa) and I can't seem to find the right answer for this, so I figured I'd ask here.

In form I-485, it says

"Information About Your Immigrant Category
If you are the principal applicant, provide the following information.
12. Receipt Number of Underlying Petition (if any)
Priority Date from Underlying Petition (if any)"

I was wondering if I should add my I-129F receipt number and then, there is no priority date. So should I put "N/A" there? Because a lot of people say to put your "receipt date" but if fiance petitions do not have a priority date, then I don't get why you would fill that out.

What do you guys think? Thank you in advance!!

I am also wondering if we need to fill this section out as we are "nonimmigrant" visa holders and the question is asking for "Information about your immigrant category".

I am interested to see what other people have put down.

Thanks for asking the question.

No problem! As usual, their terminology is confusing but I always read that as "the immigrant category we'll fall under"... since we now have immigrant intent as we adjust our status. But maybe someone else can clarify better.

I totally agree, very confusing..

This is a sample I-485 Form I found on Visa Journey, and on page 4 of this form they have left that question blank. That is where my confusion also came from.

The sample form is also not an exact replica of the current I-485 form I am currently filling out, so I was unsure how precisely to follow it as a guide.

I feel like this part of the form kind of defined that for me: they see all of these family-based categories as immigrant categories. So the underlying petition for K1 would need to be the 129F. (Attached screenshot)

i still find the priority date weird but given that I’ve seen tons of people using the received date as the priority one.. I’m gonna do the same.

There is no true priority date for a k1 adjustment of status because it is not subject to any kind of quota.  Any date you enter doesn't matter.  Received date is as good as any other

YMMV
