My dad worked for 30 years in the US.

And never became a citizen (dont know why)

He retired in mexico but had his green card taken because he lived outside US for over 6 months

Lawyer told him he could lose his social security benefits that he worked and contributed. Another told him not true.

Please help answer

Thanks

Under the things you need to have to apply for social security

• Proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful alien status if you (or a spouse or child applying for benefits) were not born in the United States.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

SS payments for non-US citizens living in other countries are a set of complicated and convoluted rules that differ for different countries.  Start here.  SSA also has a screening tool for eligibility.

Based on what I see here he DOES qualify (Citizen of Mexico, receiving benefits based on his own earnings record)

I agree with above.

Based on -- Mexican citizen living in Mexico. Non resident tax will be withheld from monthly benefits.

Payments Outside the United States

As a citizen of this country Social Security payments will keep coming no matter how long you stay outside the United States as long as you are eligible for the payments.

To find out whether any Social Security benefits payable to you will be subject to nonresident alien tax withholding for IRS, please visit the Nonresident Alien Tax Screening Tool.
