I guess that's common for people from the UK to say. I've always considered the UK part of Europe, it's obviously an island but a European island.

Several islands but a comment that might not go down too well depending who you spoke to.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Yes, it's been a mess. I feel like every step we've had something happen so slow down the process. His social took a while too because they combined his first name and middle name together like it was all his first name at the port of entry so that slowed it down. It's been 165 since USCIS has received all my paperwork. 😭

Can't offer much help but sending you good wishes. I know this is incredibly frustrating. One more thing you should do is write to your two Senators and your Congressman.

Hope you get through this soon.

I did a successful expedite request back in 2015 for something. I wrote a clear cover letter and presented evidences to back it up. Maybe a doctor's note your daughter's condition.

Apparently Canadians do not like being called Americans.

They're still part of North America.

I will mention that to the next Canadian I see. From an appropriate distance.

I'm pretty sure the UK is a European country :) Unless it decided to call itself part of Asia or Antarctica.

And the term European Union no longer applies to the UK.

In both Great Britain and Ireland, the Continent is widely and generally used to refer to the mainland of Europe. ... In addition, the word Europe itself is also regularly used to mean Europe excluding the islands of Great Britain, Iceland, and Ireland (although the term is often used to refer to the European Union).

At least hockey stick plus person's reach and factoring in their probable speed at closing the distance between you and them.

For what it's worth, I am from South Asia and have always considered the UK to be separate from Europe. When I say "European" I mean from the continent, not the British Isles.

I'm sure my opinion doesnt matter...but I supported Brexit.

If you say "American", the assumption is you mean from the United States.

It technically applies to Canadians, Mexicans, Brazilians, etc., but it generally is not used in that sense. I'm pretty sure if you called a Brazilian an American, you would get some weird looks. And probably worse if you call a Canadian an American. 😆

Now if you called them a North American (or South American in the case of Brazil), it would be more clear that you are referring to their continent of association, not anything regarding the US. No promises on the weird looks...it's still weird to say that without specific contexts.

My understanding is the UK is the same way. Technically they are Europeans as they are from the continent of Europe. But they do not associate themselves with continental Europeans, which is what most people think of when they hear "European".
