Hey guys I have all our plans set to go to California

My wife has her IR-1 visa in hand, but I am 71 years old and have underlying medical conditions, so it is not prudent for us to travel right now. I have diabetes and COPD and therefore it is very dangerous for me to travel, according to all the experts@@

I am a US citizen, but I heard the president say for US citizens to come home now or you might not be able to come back in the near future.

My wife’s visa will expire July 4 and if conditions worsen, will it be possible to get an extension on her visa?

It would seem only fair that they (USCIS) would make some exceptions if we’re unable to enter the USA. Any thoughts would be appreciated. My wife is also terrified to fly at this awful time. Thanks in advance for any advice!!

Having to start the process all over again would be financially and emotionally draining..After all we have followed all the rules and regulations and are legally trying to come home and bring our spouses or fiance's with us..We should not be punished for this, as this is no fault of our own

You would not have to start again from the beginning.  If her visa expires she can redo the DS-260 and medical and interview.

That's very informative...I appreciate that information, and what about my joint sponsor and the I-864 forms..Will they still use the ones in their system?? I am retired and pay no taxes..

I would think that a new I-864 would be needed if it was another tax year.   That being said 2019 taxes are now due on 7/15/2020.  That type of change hasn't happened before so I guess we all will learn.

Yes, I realize these are all hypothetical questions and there is still a possibilty that the U.S. will not issue a worldwide ban that would include U.S. citizens and their IV wives. The tax filing is officialy on 7-15-20 and even that can be changed....I imagine the big obstacle at this point is for my wife to find a job during this crisis. She would definitely make a good nanny as so many people who still need to go to work have very few options with child care, but it might be difficult going around looking for work during a lockdown..Thanks again...

Mary did that a bit around the holidays. (she arrived in October).   After the first of the year she decided to get caregiver certification and has basically been doing that job.  She passed the test on the first try.   Now she is about to start a nursing program.  She was supposed to start in May but that class is cancelled.  Instead she will do a  6 week CNA program starting in mid April and can hopefully skip ahead to the LPN program in the Fall.

She should plan on doing a CPR class and Food Handlers class, later being online for good nanny/ babysitting jobs.

Hasn't been an issue so far on the ground.  I have to fly for work but other than cancelled flights there have been no issues (well, all of my flights this week were essentially cancelled).

Wow, that's a great story..I know my wife wants that and she is great with children..She is already a grandma..She also is an amazing and speedy cook and there were many jobs available before this pandemic through a wrench in things...

There are a ton of places to look for nanny / babysitter jobs.   There are also nanny agencies.  Mary used care.com and another.   She also got into an agency by looking at indeed.com.

Nothing is preventing you from returning. At this moment in time every country is basically locking down their borders and only allowing their own citizens/residents back in. As your wife is the immediate relative of a USC, she would be allowed to enter.

With all the reduced travel now, and the air on the airplanes being actually quite clean, its worth trying to figure out a way to get home. Probably better health care here in the US than in the Philippines, god forbid you do get sick.

Best of luck with everything and hopefully you dont have to redo the visa process!

Thank you for your thoughts.I agree with you 100%, but unfortunately they just cancelled my flight this morning, March 24 with Philippines Airlines, so they made the decision for me..We'll just have to wait like everyone else..Good luck to you too!!

ANA and EVA are still operating that route. For now.
