I read the instructions that I don’t need to sumbit my 3yrs tax return for my N-400 application right now, However, has anyone ever done that before?  I will go ahead and submit other documents though. I’m filing online. I haven’t receive my 10 yr greencard, but I can still file my N-400 when April comes. Reply. Thanks

I don’t know where it says you don’t have to submit three years of tax returns or tax transcripts.

I submitted three years of transcripts as did pretty much everyone else.

It says tax returns are not required for every application, but they encourage you to provide them, especially if you are applying based on marriage to a U.S. citizen or have traveled outside the United States for 6 months or more.

Unless there is some reason you don't WANT to submit your tax returns, I would do so.  At the point of Citizenship, the tax returns are not about how much you make - it's to prove you are a good citizen and submit your taxes like you should.  And, if you are filing based on marriage, then it is excellent proof that your marriage is still viable.

Your tax transcripts  help to document that you maintained three continuous years of residency. In other words they are evidence that you did not terminate your lawful permanent residency.

If you didn’t have income and so didn’t file then expect during your interview to show where your means of support came from.  If it came from a foreign country strike 1. If it came from a foreign country while working there, strike 2 for breaking residency, and strike 3 for failing to file a tax return on your world wide income as required for lawful permanent residents.

And you know what happens in baseball after three strikes. Better hope your IO hates baseball.

It says you may submit copies of that and a list of other evidence with the application. It’s listed as evidence that you have lived in marital union with your spouse for 3 years. Agree with others, unless you have a reason as to why you won’t or can’t submit them, I would suggest you do to avoid delays in the future, especially if you’re submitting the other evidence. It’s the same as any other part of the process, the quality of the evidence you submit on the frontside can prevent a RFE later. Speaking from experience, my husband was just approved for the 751 and N400 without RFEs.
