I just became a US citizen and am sponsoring my wife for a green card. I sponsored a friend 2 years ago.

My wife is with an expired J1 visa. We have all the paperwork needed and are working with an attorney. Considering I have already sponsored someone, and that there were some changes in the laws in the end of February - can anyone please tell me - what income do I need to have in order to sponsor my wife? The attorney says 45K, but on the internet I found 125% of Federal Poverty Line, which if we take the 3rd person(the one I sponsored 2 years ago) would be $27,150, and for 2 people it shows only $21,550? 2 years ago my friend told me I need to have above 30-31K to sponsor him.
Can anyone more knowledgeable please enlighten us on this matter?

Thanks,
Alex

125% of the amount in I-864p . . . is the minimum for USCIS.  You have 3 people due to the friend.   At the consulate, which isn't listed on your profile, you may need a larger amount.  It is based on the totality of the circumstances.

Thanks for the answer!
Not sure which consulate we will be filing. We live in Denver, CO and are from Bulgaria.

Another question - my eventual co-sponsor was telling me if he agrees to be a co-sponsor - he would have to provide a bank account due to new laws. Is this true?

You have a joint sponsor with you previously having sponsored someone?  I haven't had any experience with that.

I haven't had a joint sponsor when I sponsored my friend 2 years ago.

Do you know if I need a joint sponsor if I made about 32K for 2019 and I have my wife and the person I sponsored 2 years ago?

Your joint sponsor will need to complete the I 864. Bank account detains are not part of this unless he is using assets in savings as part of the way he meets the requirement

You wouldn't need one based on that income.   But since you are doing AOS be aware of the new I-944.
