Can't read your paywall link.  But perhaps you are referring to Timothy Zeimer leaving the position?  So he wasn't fired by Trump?

And I gotta ask... regardless of who did or said what ion 2018 about the pandemic response team, "at this point, what does it even matter?"

If the administration thought this was a risk of epidemic, they should not have wasted two months not preparing for said risk. He could have consulted his pandemic response team, but they were let go.

And if you really want to do your research, I think you'll find out that when the then-director of the team left, the team was renamed and continued on under that name.  Also, while Trump DID propose to cut CDC funding, the truth is that he was overridden, and the CDC continued to increase funding each year.

I think I pointed out that congress overrode the presidents request to you a few weeks ago.

The CDC <> the pandemic response team

Perhaps you did.  But it was non-news two years ago.  Still is, so let's drop the particular vein that Trump has failed via the CDC's readiness, eh?  NO ONE was ready for this, not even S. Korea, who had a MUCH more robust system in place due to SARS.  Essentially, they went thru what we are doing now several years ago, learning that their outdated response system needed to be fixed.  Thankfully, they did.  Sharp group of people, those S. Koreans.
