How is the Ibuprofen stock? There was of course a silly panic about taking it with COVID.. but if you need to get a fever down...

I haven't seen anything about those stocks being low, but I did read this morning that chemists are being allowed to break up larger packs of paracetamol to sell by the strip. By larger I mean those large boxes that are usually kept behind the counter. The government is saying that there is a stockpile of it and other essential drugs, it's just not on shelves to be sold OTC. That doesn't mean to say there isn't actually a shortage of OTC paracetamol at the moment, because clearly there is.

I bought one of the two packs form Costco years ago, I would imagine a life time supply.

Before we went on lockdown here, sorry, "Safer at Home," I went to CVS to pick up a package and bought a bottle of 125 ibuprofen and a bottle of 125 acetaminophen. Pretty sure we're good for a while. Of course the problem in the UK is that you can only buy, what is it, about 32 tablets/capsules at a time of paracetamol? First time the ex and I went to Costco together he marvelled at the extra-bigass bottles of Tylenol and said that America truly is a land of bounty.

I will take your word that there is a limit, my reaction would have been why would you want to buy such a bigass bottle?

Certainly is a lot of stuff available here over the counter that would need a Prescription in the UK.

Seems there is a Paracetamol shortage in the UK, all now made in India, chickens coming home to roost.

I recall taking Paracetamol when I did not feel well in the PI. Had never heard of it before

We actually weren't buying them, I was just taking him on a tour of the Costco health and beauty selection.

Conversely, when I am over in the UK, I stock up on paracetamol with codeine because that's the good stuff and you can't get it OTC over here. I came back with four boxes in October which will set me up for a while. I don't always reach for it, but when I need it, I need it and I don't want to go to my doctor to have to ask for it.

Same thing as acetaminophen.

I had a similar issue with Dequadin, now the lady locally who is finishing her Pharmaceutical studies explained the issue, but I forget why.

Other drugs getting super hard to find are antacids. Since the Zantac recall people went insane panic buying any other available type. Now it's like crazy!

Heartburn medicine never really did much for me, but digestive enzymes did. They do say some people do get symptoms from not producing enough digestive enzymes, or sometimes are deficient in a specific one, but most people can't/don't do the tests to find out what the specific cause is. It's not always acid though.

Just wait a few years, when the lawyer ads for those hurt by taking Zantac for so long come out.  You'll be even more gladderest you use lemon water!

The best help for my reflux I've found was avoiding tomato (boo!) and they put me on something for blood pressure and all the vitamins. After that things have been a lot better.

I think for most people there is some other cause. I found out mine is because I tend to gulp everything down quickly before someone interrupts me. That's why digestive enzymes helped, but actually taking time and chewing helps better. If I ever get heartburn now, I try to think back and usually it's because something happened where I had to finish the end of my meal really quick and get back to work.

My fiance has a nightshade sensitivity, mostly tomatoes and peppers, but occasionally eggplants can cause issues. It causes the most tremendous discomfort and can be quite embarrassing. Avoiding them helps immensely. Activated charcoal works for the occasional slip up, but sometimes we have to bring in the Gas-X. Which coincidentally became the nickname my dad bestowed on him after one extremely embarrassing incident involving some albondigas. <_<
