Just got approved, I'm confused about the NVC, help!

Hey guys,

I'm wondering some things about the NVC.

Firstly, we got approved about 5 months before we thought we'd get approved. How long does it usually take for the NVC to send your welcome letter? We have to sort the police certificates and the tax returns out and we know the police certificates can take about a month.

What does documentary qualified mean?

After we pay the AOS fee and submit all the documents, how long will it take for our case to get to the embassy?

Thank you!!

Hi! Well, I can tell you about our experience. We were also approved by USCIS earlier than we expected we would be (I guess that is what you are referring to when you said you just got approved?). Then, it took about 1.5 months to receive the welcome letter from the NVC. We got the letter from USCIS that we had passed that step on September 12, 2019 and received the welcome email on October 26, 2019. We submitted all of our documents to the NVC on December 23, 2019. We heard back from them on February 19, 2020. Unfortunately, they rejected two documents (that were actually valid). You go to the end of the line when that happens. So, make sure that your documents are clearly scanned, not uploaded crooked or in landscape (I guess they don't have the ability to rotate documents to read them). I would suggest taking your time prepping your documents and making sure they are as close to perfect as possible so as to save yourself rejections on grounds that often are quite frustrating! Once you do get approved, we have heard that it takes about a month to pass your case to the embassy. But that probably depends on which embassy (we are in Buenos Aires) and also all timelines are off now with COVID-19. Good luck and I hope that helps!

Thats great! Congratulations! That is especially great since I figured the NVC was short staffed due to COVID-19. No idea if that is normal. Like I said, ours took over one month. Our friends also had to wait about a month to hear. I would guess that is not normal, but if you can log into the CEAC website, then you are golden!
