Woah it's been a long time since I last came here. Has anyone heard of the immediate cheque to people under the Coronavirus relief plan? Here's the link (https://kdvr.com/news/coronavirus/family-of-4-could-get-3k-under-coronavirus-relief-plan-treasury-secretary-says/)

In the news it says the $1000 would be deposited to citizens only? So how about permanent residents who pay and file tax returns? Are we excluded in the plan?

I guess no one knows for sure at the stage but I want to know if anyone's wondering and hoping like I do now?

That is a great question.  The good news is that UI will be available to legal residents without repercussions.

What are the normal repercussions of receiving UI?

YMMV

News reports say that the stimulus check will be for US citizens only and based on 2018 tax returns. There is no way to indicate citizenship on a 1040, permanent residents and non-resident aliens who are resident aliens for tax purposes file this form too. Will non US citizens get in trouble if they receive this payment? Already worried about this!

Wait until the package is finalized...until then everything is speculation.

It's hard to say what is really even being discussed now. When most people say "Americans" or "citizens", it's usually an abbreviated form for all sorts of classes of people. Until the actual rules for qualification are defined, it's best to just watch and wait.

There are none because you paid into the UI system.

Then no change therefore no "good" news for permanent residents

YMMV

Excited to see if us LPRs get a check in the mail.   Would certainly be very welcome right now to buffer our job losses and pay cuts a little bit.  At least one of us should get something.    Hoping for both.    But of course we just wait and see.    Makes a refreshing change from waiting for the next notice from USCIS...............  ;)
