Please don't judge me for asking this question.  My husband and both our children are US citizens. But I'm a legal permanent resident with a 10 year green card. I work at the hospital and my husband has just lost his job. I'm meant to be starting nursing school in August depending on how everything goes. I work on the desk as well as assist nurses with patient care. I can pick up work but I don't think it will near the costs of how much my husband was earning.  My husband is thinking about applying for SNAP because we are struggling to afford food with out his wages. We are probably going to struggle even with assistance and overtime. He was going to apply for me too but I told him he should probably only apply for him and the kids as I'm sure I don't qualify for government assistance like food stamps. I've never once thought we would be in this position but strange times... so grateful I work in healthcare so I can provide for my family.

He can apply for himself and the children but not you.

Generally speaking, LPRs are eligible for SNAP after 5 years of LPR status.  There is also, generally speaking, an exception for women who are LPRs who are pregnant.

 

There are also some exceptions for LPRs who obtained LPR status due to asylum, refugee status, VAWA, etc (there are other cases too, gets complicated).  I am guessing these would not apply here
