Make sure to call the Clerk of Courts (or whatever office issues marriage licenses in Ohio). In Louisiana a ssn is required, but when I called to be sure they said that the requirement could be waived before a judge if we present my fiance's foreign passport and provided a "statement of no social security nubmer".

I feel you on that waiting part. If you end up having to wait at least you'd be together so it won't be as bad. :)

I also suggest doing everything you can to get married without the SSN. My husband went to the SSA office 8 days after his arrival and had no problem getting his number. However, there are people who wait months and months and are still unsuccessful.

Being prepared ahead of time is great but I'd put more time and effort into filing your I-129F and getting it approved before worrying about getting married in the US.

If you don't you "may" not have to know anything about getting married in the US!!!!! !

My fiance was in town for one week and we went in and filed for a ss#, the card arrived in the mail about 10 days later. Once we we married we went back into the ss office and filed a form to put her married name on the card. Two weeks later we received her new card, which also had a new ss number.

It's worth a call to your county's marriage license office. Allegheny County's Register of Wills insists, on the website and in all of their printed materials, that you need a valid social security number and a form of photo ID in order to get married. But if you call and actually talk to them and explain that you have a valid K-1, they'll say, no problem, and we had no troubles securing a marriage license.

same goes as ours, we need to get ss#(4 weeks in process) and florida id card as requirements to get a marriage license,,UGHH

Uh, why?

http://www.pbcountyclerk.com/courtservices...l/marriage.html

Marriage laws are set by state, so I figured the requirements were the same in Palm Beach as Pinellas - he can use his passport. My husband had his driver's license but used his passport instead, and an SSN is not required, they will use the number on the visa.

If someone is telling you you need the SSN and Florida ID card, they're mistaken. If it's at the courthouse, ask to see the procedural manual telling them that. Ask for a supervisor. I assure you it is NOT a requirement.

this is the way the world ends

this is the way the world ends

this is the way the world ends

not with a bang but a whimper

In Florida you do not need an SSN or a Florida ID to get married - only a passport (for ID).

As has been stated, most places have exceptions in place for those without an SSN. My court clerk's site mentions a passport with a current I 94 or visa (or both) - assuming that one may marry on a tourist visa or a K1.

Call the place and ask.

We're living down here in Port St. Lucie Florida, last week me and my fiance went to the church to ask the requirements and they have mentioned bunches of it including parental consent ?? (I'm 28 and my fiance's 38) what the heck is that all about?! and so we've decided to go to the city hall for a justice wedding instead and the guy on the counter told us that we need the SS# for the marriage license.

So, I guess we still have a month to wait to get married, I just filed my ss# on june 14 and the lady at ss office said that it usually takes 4 weeks of process before I could get my id. uggh
